AMESBURY, Mass. - Sophomore
Lane Hutson of the Boston University men's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defender of the Month, the league announced on Thursday.
Hutson was terrific for the Terriers in November, as he helped BU go 4-1-0 against top-10 opponents en route to a 6-2-0 record for the month, including just one regulation loss. He led all Hockey East blue liners with six goals and added five assists to finish the month with 11 points, good for second among all league defensemen. Hutson had three multi-point games, including a hat trick against then-No. 3/4 North Dakota on Nov. 4 and two assists against both then-No. 9 Maine (Nov. 18) and then-No. 3 Quinnipiac (Nov. 22). He began the month on a four-game goal streak and had a seven-game point streak snapped on Saturday against Cornell.
A native of North Barrington, Illinois, Hutson leads all NCAA defensemen with eight goals and he has also notched eight assists for a total of 16 points, which is tied for fourth among NCAA blue liners. Hutson has been held without a point just three times this season and enters the weekend with 23 goals and 41 assists for 64 career points in just 52 games.
This is Hutson's third time being named Hockey East Defender of the Month, as he earned the honor in each of the first two months of his collegiate career (October and November 2022). Hutson was also named Hockey East Player of the Month for January 2023.
Beginning with
Case McCarthy's selection as Hockey East Defender of the Month for November 2021, there has only been one time (February 2023) that at least one Terrier did not receive a monthly accolade from Hockey East. BU has claimed 13 monthly awards from the league in that span, including seven Defender of the Month honors.
BU will close the first semester with a home-and-home series against Merrimack that begins Friday night in North Andover and concludes on Saturday at Agganis Arena.
