HANOVER, N.H. – Competing in its final road game of the non-conference schedule, the Boston University men's basketball team fell at Dartmouth, 63-54, on Wednesday night.
The Terriers (4-7) rallied from a 13-point deficit to tie the game early in the second half but was unable to overcome a poor shooting performance at the charity stripe (42.1 FT%) and from behind the arc (17.4 3FG%) against the Big Green (3-6).
Senior
Miles Brewster tallied a team-high 13 points, while junior
Ethan Okwuosa earned 12 points and five rebounds. The duo along with freshman
Kyrone Alexander combined for eight of the Terriers' 10 steals, while sophomore
Otto Landrum earned a team-high six rebounds alongside eight points.
Romeo Myrthil came off the bench to net a game-high 18 points with the help of three 3-pointers, while Jaren Johnson tallied 10 points. Both he and Ryan Cornish (9 pts.) hauled in a game-high seven rebounds apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Big Green hit a pair of 3-pointers during a game-opening 19-6 run capped by Nikola Dimitrijevic's trey at 10:45.
- Sophomore Ben Roy helped cut the lead to 23-16 at 6:12 on a free throw, but Dartmouth quickly hit back-to-back jumpers to push the lead back to double-digits.
- Facing a 33-23 deficit, Alexander set up Landrum's short jumper with a steal and then scored in 3-point territory on the Terriers' last possession to help BU enter the locker room down only five, 33-28.
- Brewster flushed a trey at 16:09 to pull the Terriers within one, 38-37, and Okwuosa responded to a made Big Green free throw with a successful drive to the hoop.
- With the contest tied for the first and only time at 39-39, Myrthil scored from behind the arc to spark a 12-0 run finished by two of his free throws at 9:39.
- BU recovered and managed to chip away, pulling within five (51-46) at 5:51 on Roy's layup and later at 3:42 (53-49)and 2:11 (55-51).
- The Big Green had a response each time, and the Terriers missed five 3-point attempts over the final 90 seconds for the loss.
GAME NOTES
- Brewster led BU in scoring for the second time this season and in his career, as he tallied 10+ points for the fifth time over the last two months.
- Okwuosa scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time as a Terrier.
- BU outscored Dartmouth off turnovers (15-14), in the paint (32-22) and in second-chance opportunities (9-0), but the Big Green posted a 14-8 advantage in made free throws alongside a 7-4 lead in made 3-pointers.
- The Big Green snapped a three-game losing streak in the series to improve to 23-10 all-time.
