COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore
Lane Hutson of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named to the preliminary roster for the 2024 U.S. National Junior Team, as announced by USA Hockey on Monday.
Hutson, who won bronze with Team USA at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, will compete at a training camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., from Dec. 14-16. He is one of 29 Americans auditioning for a spot on the final 25-player roster that will represent the United States in the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2023 – Jan. 5, 2024, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
A native of North Barrington, Illinois, Hutson finished last year's World Junior Championship with one goal and three assists for four points, including the primary assist on the overtime-winning goal in the bronze medal game. He also skated with the senior national team at the 2023 IIHF Men's World Championship in May, finishing the tournament as a plus-7 with six points on two goals and four assists.
Hutson has been fantastic in his sophomore season with the Terriers. The reigning Hockey East Defender of the Month enters the semester break as the top-scoring defenseman in Hockey East with 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists. No other blue liner in the country has scored more goals than Hutson, who ranks third nationally among defensemen in points. He has been held without a point on just three occasions and has recorded at least two points five different times, including his first collegiate hat trick against then-No. 3/4 North Dakota on Nov. 4.
In 54 career games with the Terriers, Hutson has tallied 23 goals and 45 assists for 68 points. He reached 50 points in just 41 games, totaling 16 goals and 34 assists in that span to become the fastest Terrier defenseman to reach that milestone since Dick Lamby did it in 25 games across two seasons (1976-77 and 1977-78).
