Three Terriers Tabbed as Preseason All-Americans

February 1, 2023

BOSTON - Senior Vince D'Alto, graduate student Matt Garber and senior Roy Meyer of the Boston University men's lacrosse team have all earned preseason All-America accolades in 2023.

Meyer is a three-time preseason All-American, securing first-team honors from Inside Lacrosse and the USILA as well as second-team recognition from USA Lacrosse Magazine. Both D'Alto and Garber garnered honorable mention status from Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine. All three standouts were All-Americans in 2022 after they helped lead BU to its first Patriot League title.

The Patriot League's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Meyer finished his impressive 2022 with 58 caused turnovers and 81 ground balls. His 58 caused turnovers was the most by any NCAA player since 2013 and the second-most by any NCAA player since it became an official stat in 2010. His 81 ground balls was the most ever by a Terrier defender and ranks seventh all-time in the program's single-season record book. Meyer also tallied the first four points of his career, securing one goal and three assists. In addition to his success at LSM, Meyer showed his versatility by starting four games at close defense while Morrison was out with an injury. The 2022 Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year saved his best for last, totaling 29 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers over the last five games to help BU secure its first-ever conference regular-season and tournament titles.

D'Alto, the PL Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, had one of the best seasons by a Terrier attackman in program history. He scored a career-high 45 goals and dished out a career-best 30 assists for a career-high 75 points in 17 games, notching a point in all but one contest. D'Alto was the fourth Terrier in program history to record 70 or more points in a single season. A 2022 First Team All-Patriot League selection, D'Alto posted 16 multi-point games and scored all goal in all 16 of those contests. He had a record-setting performance on March 26 against Lafayette when he tallied seven goals and seven assists for a program-record 14 points, becoming just the eighth Division I men's lacrosse player to notch at least 14 points and only the third player in 25 years to do so.

Garber, the Patriot League Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, finished 2022 with a .536 save percentage and a 10.41 goals-against average. Additionally, Garber was an integral part in the success of the Terriers' impressive 10-man ride. In conference play, Garber boasted a 9.32 goals-against average and a .581 save percentage en route to his 7-1 league record. He averaged 11.76 saves per game and held opponents to 10 goals or fewer on nine different occasions. In addition to his on-field excellence, Garber won the E. Ray Speare Award as BU's top male scholar-athlete in the senior class and was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
