No. 3 BU, BC to Renew Rivalry Monday at TD Garden

The No. 3 Boston University men's ice hockey team will renew its rivalry with Boston College on Monday night when the two teams face off at TD Garden in the consolation game of the 70th Dunkin' Beanpot. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The first-ever meeting between BU and BC in the Beanpot consolation contest will not be televised or streamed, but fans can listen to an audio-only broadcast at GoTerriers.com/listen.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU has not played since its 3-1 loss to Northeastern in the Beanpot semifinals last Monday.
  • That loss snapped the Terriers' seven-game win streak.
  • BU has yet to lose two straight games this season and has not lost consecutive regular-season games since a four-game losing streak from Oct. 29-Nov. 6, 2021.
  • The Terriers' three Hobey hopefuls combined to score against the Huskies, with freshman Lane Hutson and senior captain Domenick Fensore assisting on senior Matt Brown's team-leading 13th goal of the season.
  • Brown leads Hockey East with 38 points and is third nationally with 1.41 points per game.
  • Hutson, the league-leader in assists (27), is second in the league with 36 points and is fourth nationally with 1.38 points per game.
  • The Hockey East Rookie of the Month is also first among all NCAA defensemen in points and is tied for first among the nation's blue liners in assists.
  • The Terriers led the region with five of the 25 total semifinalists for the Walter Brown Award, which is presented annually to the best American-born men's college hockey player in New England; Brown, Fensore, Hutson, junior Drew Commesso and freshman Jeremy Wilmer were all recognized.
  • BU boasts the second-ranked offense in the country at 4.11 goals per game.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Comm. Ave. rivals have met 290 times and the Terriers lead the series, 139-130-21 (.516).
  • That includes a weekend sweep by the Terriers on Jan. 27-28, with BU besting BC, 6-3, in Boston before earning a 3-1 win in Chestnut Hill the next night.
  • BU is 29-16 all-time against BC in the Beanpot, including a 5-4 double-overtime win in the opening round of the 2020 tournament.
  • No other opponent has appeared on BU's schedule more often.
  • Northeastern is the next closest, having faced BU 248 times since the 1930-31 season.
  • The first game in BU Hockey history was on Feb. 6, 1918, against Boston College at Boston Arena.
  • The Terriers and the Eagles have played 46 overtime games and BC holds a 16-10-20 edge.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

  • BC suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to Harvard in last Monday's opening round, allowing the Crimson to score the winner with 1.5 seconds left in the extra period.
  • The Eagles followed that with a 3-1 home loss to Maine on Friday, which extended their winless streak to eight games (0-6-2).
  • Freshman Cutter Gauthier leads BC in goals (14) and points (25).
  • Junior Nikita Nesterenko is second on the squad with 22 points thanks to six goals and a team-high 16 assists.
  • Graduate student Mitch Benson is 9-12-6 in 27 appearances, posting a 2.73 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
