WEST POINT, N.Y. – In a contest featuring nine ties, the Boston University men's basketball team scored the final six points to pull out a 73-67 win at Army West Point Wednesday night.
With their second consecutive win, the Terriers improve to 14-16 and 7-10 in conference play, while the Black Knights fall to 15-15 (9-8 PL). BU only shot 42.4 percent from the field and held Army to 46.3 FG% but posted advantages in made 3-pointers (7-5) and free throws (16-12).
Senior Ethan Brittain-Waatts went a perfect 3-of-3 in 3-point territory and 5-of-5 at the charity stripe en route to a team-high 16 points. Graduate student
Jonas Harper matched Brittain-Watts with three assists alongside 13 points and two steals. Classmate
Fletcher Tynen totaled 10 points, and freshman
Otto Landrum recorded team-high six rebounds with eight points.
Jalen Rucker posted a game-high 24 points with four assists but needed 19 field goal attempts to reach the point total, while Ethan Roberts recorded a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. Abe Johnson tallied 11 points off the bench, and Chris Mann hauled in 10 rebounds.
DOWN THE STRETCH
- After senior Nevin Zink netted a hook shot at 4:14 for the 67-60 advantage, Roberts responded with a layup to spark a 7-0 spurt capped by Rucker's game-tying 3-pointer at 1:53.
- On their next possession, BU had a layup shot blocked out of bounds and a jumper clang off the rim, but the Terriers hung onto the ball and found Harper for the go-ahead 3-pointer at 1:07.
- The Black Knights missed their last three shot attempts, and the Terriers sealed the victory with three free throws.
THE SETUP
- The first half featured six lead changes and seven ties with Army leading for over 10 minutes and BU only 4:27.
- However, neither team led by more than four during the first 20 minutes of action.
- The Black Knights scored five straight as part of a 12-4 run for an early 12-8 advantage and later led, 17-13, at 9:28 on Charlie Peterson's layup.
- Facing a 24-21 deficit with 6:35 remaining in the half, Tynen hit a hook shot, and junior Anthony Morales later scored two points from the charity stripe at 4:44.
- Whyte struck from behind the arc at 1:53, and Brittain-Watts converted on a feed from Landrum for the short jumper and bonus free throw to enter the locker room ahead, 33-29.
- Army jumped out with four quick points before the Terriers scored six straight points to move ahead, 39-33, with 16:16 left.
- Harper forced a turnover and scored on a layup to grab BU's largest lead of the game, 45-37, at 13:49.
- The teams went back-and-forth over the next seven minutes with Whyte hitting a free throw to maintain a 63-55 lead at 6:00.
GAME NOTES
- Brittain-Watts led BU in scoring for the fifth time this season while finishing in double figures for the 13th time after hitting the mark just four times over his first three years.
- Landrum led the Terriers in rebounding for the third time.
- Harper moved into a tie-for-29th all-time at BU in points (1,112).
- BU snapped a two-game road losing streak that saw the Terriers fall in overtime at Lafayette and on a buzzer beater at Holy Cross. The Terriers also earned their second win of the season on a Wednesday.
- The Terriers improved to 22-16 all-time against the Black Knights.

- BU will return home and host Lehigh in the regular season finale on Saturday (Feb. 25) at 1 p.m.
