BOSTON – Following successful trips to Florida and South Carolina, the Boston University softball team will conclude its Southern Tour at the Queen City Classic in Charlotte.
The Terriers will first open against tournament host Charlotte on Thursday (Feb. 23) at 6 p.m. and then compete in a doubleheader on Friday (Feb. 24) against Kent State at 10 a.m. and Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m. They will then battle Penn State on both Saturday (Feb. 25) at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday (Feb. 26) at 9 a.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 3-0 so far against tournament hosts, posting run-rule victories at South Florida (8-0, 6 inn.) and at Charleston (10-2 and 9-0).
- Reigning Patriot League Player of the Week and junior Lauren Keleher is batting a team-high .519 in the lead-off slot with a team-high nine RBIs, while classmate Kayla Roncin is batting .517 with eight RBIs. Both own seven runs scored.
- Graduate student Emily Gant (.357) has reached home plate a team-high nine times, one more than freshman Brooke Deppiesse (.364).
- Reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week and freshman Kasey Ricard (3-1, 2.04 ERA) has posted a team-high 30 strikeouts in 24.0 innings, while senior Allison Boaz (3-1, 3.13 ERA) has collected 24 strikeouts in 22.1 innings of work.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Charlotte, 6-3 (Thursday, 6 p.m.)
- The 49ers most recently went 3-2 at the Red & Black Showcase with 6-5 win over No. 10 Georgia and 5-4 loss to No. 17 Stanford. Charlotte is 3-1 at home with 9-1 run-rule win over South Carolina and 6-1 loss to Campbell.
- Two-time Kassidy Krupit leads Charlotte at .394 with 12 RBIs. She's one of three with multiple homers so far.
- Five pitchers have earned at least one start with Georgeanna Barefoot (2-0, 1.79 ERA) collecting eight strikeouts in 15.2 innings. Sam Gress (2-2, 1.85 ERA) has pitched a team-high 22.2 innings, holding opponents to .207.
- Charlotte leads the all-time series, 5-1, after winning both meetings at home last season, 4-1 and 2-1.
Kent State, 4-5 (Friday, 10 a.m.)
- The Golden Flashes went 4-0 last weekend in Baltimore, Maryland, with pair of wins over both UMBC and Niagara after losing two times apiece to Texas State and Villanova a week prior.
- Abbie Wilfing is batting a team-high .294 with three RBIs, while Emily Kippe (.286) owns a team-high three homers alongside six RBIs.
- Anilese Kelly (2-2, 3.21 ERA) has tallied 21 strikeouts in 28.1 innings, while Macy Irelan (1-2, 3.96 ERA) has posted 15 strikeouts in 17.2 innings.
- BU won the only meeting back in 2011 during a nine-inning thriller, 10-9.
Georgia Tech, 4-5 (Friday, 12:30 p.m.)
- Coming off a 2022 NCAA at-large berth, the Yellow Jackets most recently posted a 5-3 home win against Kennesaw State following a split against Illinois (5-2, 3-4).
- Madison Dobbins is batting a team-high .348. Sara Beth Allen (.333), Emma Kauf (.320) and Mallorie Black (.280) have all collected three homers apiece with Black owning a team-high 11 RBIs.
- Blake Neleman (2-1, 2.92 ERA) has tallied 38 strikeouts in 26.1 innings while holding opponents to .161 batting average, while Chandler Dennis (3-3, 3.79 ERA) has 21 strikeouts in 24.0 innings.
- Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 4-1, last winning in 2009 as part of the NCAA regional finals, 7-2. BU's lone victory occurred in 2001.
Penn State, 5-0 (Saturday, 11:30 a.m. & Sunday, 9 a.m.)
- The Nittany Lions' trip to Coastal Carolina was canceled in the opening weekend. PSU then went 5-0 in Florida by a combined score of 28-1, highlighted by a 10-0 victory over Memphis.
- Liana Jones is batting a team-high .438 with seven RBIs, while both Lexie Black (.400) and Maggie Finnegan (.385) own seven RBIs apiece.
- Bailey Parshall (2-0, 0.00 ERA) has tallied 22 strikeouts in 15.0 innings, while Kylee Lingenfelter (2-0, 0.00 ERA) owns 17 strikeouts in 11.0 innings.
- PSU leads the series, 6-1, with three straight wins, including most recently a 3-2 decision in 2008. BU's lone victory was in 2002 by an identical score of 3-2.
