BOSTON – Looking to carry momentum into next week's Patriot League tournament, the Boston University men's basketball team will host Lehigh on Saturday with the regular season finale set to tip off at 1 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the program will recognize nine Terriers as part of the Senior Day ceremony with a 12:35 p.m. start time. BU will try to enter a conference tourney on a three-game win streak for the first time since 2011 following victories over Bucknell (77-61) and Army West Point (73-67).
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 8-4 at home this season, having won the last two against the Bison and American (60-54).
- Graduate student Walter Whyte is averaging a team-high 14.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg. He currently ranks 11th all-time in the PL record book at 813 rebounds and 22nd with 1,659 points.
- Classmate Jonas Harper is second on the team at a personal-best 10.5 ppg with a team-high 53 made 3-pointers, including the go-ahead bucket at Army on Wednesday with 66 seconds remaining in regulation.
- Senior Ethan Brittain-Watts recorded a team-high 16 points in the contest with the help of three 3-pointers and is averaging 9.0 ppg.
- Graduate student Fletcher Tynen (7.2 ppg) is second on team at 4.7 rpg with 5.1 rpg in conference play.
- Overall, BU is averaging 67.3 ppg and 41.5 FG% while holding opponents to 67.5 ppg and 43.8 FG%.
SCOUTING LEHIGH
- The Mountain Hawks are 7-7 on the road this season with a 6-2 mark against the Patriot League. The two losses came against Colgate (81-53) and Army (80-78) with the the six wins all being decided by eight points or less.
- A fellow All-PL preseason honoree alongside Whyte, Evan Taylor is averaging 14.3 ppg and a team-high 6.4 rpg with 13 blocks and 42.5 3FG%.
- Both Keith Higgins Jr. (14.9 ppg) and Tyler Whitney-Sidney (13.4 ppg) are averaging over 48 FG%.
- The Mountain Hawks are averaging 70.5 ppg and 44.7 FG% while holding opponents to 69.7 ppg and 43.5 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 12-9, having won four of the last six meetings and the last three at Case Gym.
- The Terriers led, 27-26, at the half on the road back on Jan. 29, but the Mountain Hawks shot 47 percent in the second half while holding BU to 26 percent to pull away for a 66-55 victory.
- Both teams were called with 24 fouls apiece and combined for 57 free throw attempts.
UP NEXT
- BU will need a win over Lehigh and other results later in the day to go its way in order to earn a first round bye.
- The Terriers will either host an opponent to be determined in the first round Tuesday (Feb. 28) or hit the road for the quarterfinals on Thursday (March 2).
