The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its 10th season on Saturday when the Terriers travel to UMass to face the No. 20/18 Minutemen. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. There will be no live stream of the game; fans can follow live stats by clicking here.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU bounced back from a season-opening loss to defeat Bryant, 16-15, in overtime last weekend.
- The Terriers erased a 14-11 fourth-quarter deficit before senior Thomas Niedringhaus scored his career-high fourth goal of the day in OT off a feed from graduate student Matt Hilburn.
- Senior Roy Meyer's second caused turnover and sixth ground ball of the day came on the opening possession of overtime to set up Niedringhaus' heroics.
- Senior Vince D'Alto recorded six points on three goals and three assists, senior Louis Perfetto tallied two goals and two assists for four points and graduate student Timmy Ley secured a hat trick.
- Each of those three talented attackers has scored six goals this season.
- Senior Patrick Morrison was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after he set career highs with five caused turnovers and six ground balls.
- Morrison and Meyer are tied for second in the country with 3.5 caused turnovers per game.
- As a team, BU is second in the nation with 14.50 caused tunovers per game.
- The Terriers are also second in the NCAA with 42.50 ground balls per game.
HISTORY WITH UMASS
- BU and UMass met for the first time last season at Nickerson Field, with the Terriers earning a 16-7 win on Feb. 26, 2022.
- The Terriers jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one quarter and held a 9-3 halftime lead.
- BU then extended that advantage to 12-3 as they closed out a 7-0 run to put the game out of reach.
- Timmy Ley posted seven points thanks to four goals and a career-best three assists.
- Vince D'Alto tallied three goals and three assists while Jake Cates (2g) and Louis Perfetto (2a) each had a multi-point effort against the Minutemen.
- Matt Baugher, Will Carson and Matt Hilburn each found the back of the net while Tommy Bourque and Thomas Niedringhaus also scored for BU.
- Defensively, Roy Meyer led BU with four caused turnovers and added three ground balls while Patrick Morrison and Dane DeGoler each had four ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Matt Garber was excellent in the cage, making 10 saves, with Will Barnes playing the final 2:50 and stopping both shots he faced in his NCAA debut.
- Conor Calderone collected six ground balls as part of his 12-win day at the faceoff X, with Benjamin Ferrara winning both draws he took in his first appearance for the Terriers.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
- UMass is 2-0 and ranked in both major national polls after a 10-8 home win to open the season and an 11-3 road triumph at UMass Lowell last Friday.
- Senior goalkeeper Matt Knote leads the nation with a 5.50 goals-against average and is second in the country with a .718 save percentage.
- He made 19 saves in the win over Army.
- UMass boasts the best defense in the nation, allowing just 5.50 goals per game.
- Graduate student Gabriel Procyk leads the Minutemen in goals (4), assists (3) and points (7).
- Redshirt sophomore Caleb Hammett is facing off at 46.2% (12-of-26), including a 10-of-15 performance at UMass Lowell, and leads UMass with eight ground balls.
- Junior Ryan Henry is 7-of-11 at the X with one ground ball.
- Graduate student Ryan Sharkey and senior Chris Campbell pace UMass with three caused turnovers apiece.
