CUMBERLAND, R.I. – Opening a three-match weekend, the Boston University men's tennis team claimed a 4-3 win against Bryant at the Fore Court Tennis Club Friday evening.
The Terriers (6-6) swept through doubles and captured three of the six singles points, including two in straight sets, to defeat the Bulldogs (1-9).
Freshman
Alejandro Licea and sophomore
Dion Loutas started the action with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Junior
Johann Sajonz and sophomore
Adrian Pawlowski clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at line 3 before junior
Jonah Dickson and sophomore
Cole Knutsen completed the sweep, 7-6(4).
In singles, Licea carried momentum from his dominating doubles performance with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 slot. Knutsen also won in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-4 win at line 6.
Bryant battled back with straight-set victories at lines 1 and 5. The Bulldogs also held off junior
Jonah Dickson's rally with a 7-6(7), 1-6, 6-4 win for their third point.
The Terriers though prevailed in the end, as freshman
Corey Craig staged a successful rally after losing a tiebreaker with a 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-3 win.
With its second one-point win of the season, BU snapped a five-match losing streak against Bryant with the last win occurring in 2017. The Terriers will remain at Fore Court and face Delaware on Saturday (Feb. 25) at 12:45 p.m.
