BOSTON – Wrapping up a season-opening 25-game road trip, the Boston University softball team will visit Fairfield on Saturday with the doubleheader slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.

The two contests were a late add to the schedule this week due to BU's last five games either being canceled or postponed by weather and the Stags losing eight contests to weather.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU will be taking to the field for the first time since shutting out No. 12 Baylor, 2-0, back on March 9 in California.
  • The Terriers are 5-2 in true road games this season, most recently posting a 10-0 (5) victory at defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton on March 8. Another highlight win came against 2022 NCAA regional participant South Florida (8-0). BU dropped a 2-0 decision at San Diego State but defeated the Aztecs the following day on a neutral field.
  • Junior Kayla Roncin is batting a team-high .434 and ranks 32nd nationally with 33 hits with three homers and 17 RBIs. She's one of three with five doubles alongside junior Lauren Keleher (.414) and freshman Brooke Deppiesse (.311).
  • Keleher also has four triples alongside senior Caitlin Coker (.324), while Deppiesse owns a team-high 18 RBIs.
  • In the circle, senior Allison Boaz (9-3, 1.98 ERA) ranks 21st nationally in victories. Both she and freshman Kasey Ricard (6-2, 2.66 ERA) have collected three solo shutouts apiece with a combined 114 strikeouts in 116.1 innings of work. Senior Lizzy Avery (2-1, 2.26 ERA) owns a solo shutout while helping BU combine for two more.
  • As a team, BU is batting .305 and is holding opponents to .216. The Terriers lead in both doubles (28-14) and triples (12-1) but have just five homers against 13 allowed.
SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
  • The Stags started the season with three straight wins, defeating both Monmouth (2x) and Stetson.
  • During the current nine-game losing streak, Fairfield has suffered heartbreak to Maryland (4-3), DePaul (2-1) and George Mason (8-7).
  • Kaitlin Hoffman and Megan Forbes are batting an identical .333 with six RBIs apiece and a combined nine doubles, while Charli Warren (.324) is batting .324 with 10 runs scored and five stolen bases.
  • In the circle, Allie Bridgman (1-4, 4.33) has gone the distance twice and has the team's lone save with 17 strikeouts in 27.0 innings. Alyssa Weinberg (1-2, 9.61 ERA) has 16 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.
  • Fairfield is batting .257 while holding opponents to .313.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 13-3, but will be facing the Stags for the first time since pulling out a 3-2 road win in nine innings in 2003.
  • The teams were supposed to face off in 2011 and 2012, but weather canceled those games.
  • The Terriers are on a four-game win streak, last falling in a DH split at home in 1998.
UP NEXT
  • BU will host Yale in a doubleheader on Tuesday (March 21) starting at 2 p.m.
  • The Terriers will welcome the Bulldogs to campus for the first time since 1996.
