BOSTON - Senior
Vince D'Alto scored his 100th career goal and the Terriers set a new program record for goals in a game as the Boston University men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-9 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
D'Alto finished the day with six goals and three assists for nine points, with all six goals and two of his three assists doing in a dominant first-half performance. Senior Louis Perfetto (4g, 1a) and graduate student Timmy Ley (2g, 3a) each finished with five points as the Terriers' star attack unit combined for 12 goals and seven assists.
The previous record for goals in a game was 21, set last year in a 21-11 victory over Lafayette at Nickerson. D'Alto was also a big part of that day, as he totaled a record 14 points thanks to seven goals and seven assists, both of which are also single-game Terrier highs.
Sophomore Zach Travaglini scored his first collegiate goal and picked up the first two assists of his career for a three-point afternoon. He was one of six Terriers to record their first NCAA goal on Saturday. Freshman Kabran Clark notched his first assist in addition to his first goal, while senior Miles Lipton, sophomore Jimmy O'Connell, freshman Jimmy Kohr and sophomore Brendan Kelly found the back of the net for the first time.
In addition to Travaglini and Clark, four other Terriers - senior Walker Ker and freshmen Will Delagarza, Ethan Hart and Cole Van Meter - tallied their first NCAA assists on Saturday.
Senior Conor Calderone had another terrific day at the faceoff X, going 15-of-22 and securing six ground balls. Freshman Rich Rindos went 3-for-4 while sophomore Benjamin Ferrara went 5-for-10 with a career-best four ground balls as the Terriers won 24 of the 36 draws contested.
Defensively, BU forced seven failed clears and caused 14 of the Crusaders' 24 turnovers. Ker, senior Roy Meyer and senior Patrick Morrison had two caused turnovers apiece to lead the Terriers. Senior goalkeeper Matt Garber got the start and made five saves while sophomore Will Barnes stopped all three shots he faced in his 16:51 of work. Junior Mario Hemann played the final 2:54 in his collegiate debut.
HOW IT HAPPENED

- D'Alto wasted no time reaching the century mark, finding the back of the net off a feed from Travaglini at 11:14.
- Perfetto put BU in front at 8:35, but Holy Cross answered just over a minute later to tie the game.
- A highlight-reel goal from D'Alto gave BU a lead it didn't relinquish, as he went behind the back off a feed from Ley for his second strike of the day.
- Just 12 seconds later, Ley found the back of the net for the first time on the day, before an absolute rocket from Lipton 17 seconds after Ley's strike completed a run of three goals in 29 seconds.
- The Crusaders got within one with back-to-back goals, but D'Alto and Perfetto answered with a goal apiece to send BU to the second quarter with a 7-4 lead.
- Junior Tommy Bourque's ninth goal of the season gave the Terriers an 8-4 lead just 1:02 into the quarter, though the Crusaders answered 48 seconds later.
- D'Alto then scored three straight goals in a span of just under three minutes to push the BU lead to 11-5.
- Those three markers started a 6-0 run for BU, with Perfetto, graduate student Matt Baugher and senior Thomas Niedringhaus all finding the back of the net.
- The teams traded goals at the end of the half to make it a 15-7 score after 30 minutes, and then continued to trade goals until BU went on a 6-0 run to end the game.
- After neither team scored for the final 10:07 of the third quarter following a goal from graduate student Jett Dziama, Perfetto made it 19-9 at 13:20. Kelly, Clark, O'Connell and Kohr then rounded out the scoring to create the 23-9 score.
