EASTON, Pa. - Graduate student
Timmy Ley became the Boston University men's lacrosse program's all-time points leader when he assisted on one of senior
Louis Perfetto's career-high six goals in the Terriers' 12-10 win over Lafayette on Saturday at Fisher Stadium.
BU (7-1, 4-0 PL) won its seventh straight contest and rallied from an 8-5 deficit midway through the third quarter by scoring seven of the final nine goals of the game. Perfetto scored five of his six goals in that second-half run, including three straight in the fourth quarter to give the Terriers a 12-9 lead. Lafayette (4-6, 1-3 PL) got one goal back to get within two in the final 35 seconds, but BU won the ensuing faceoff to run out the clock.
Ley finished the day with 195 career points, one more than 2019 graduate James Burr (153g, 41a). He tallied two of his 137 career goals before his 58th assist set the record.
Ley was not the only Terrier to reach a major milestone, as senior
Roy Meyer became just the third active player and the 23rd player since 2010 to record 100 career caused turnovers. He finished the game with one takeaway in addition to four ground balls.
In addition to Ley, senior
Vince D'Alto and junior
Tommy Bourque tallied two goals apiece. Graduate student
Jett Dziama, senior
Donnie Howard and sophomore
Zach Travaglini each had an assist, while
Benjamin Ferrara earned his first collegiate assist while going 7-for-16 at the faceoff X with four ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU got off to a great start, scoring twice in six seconds to take a 2-0 lead.
- The first goal came at 12:47 when Perfetto converted off a Howard feed in transition.
- Then, on the ensuing faceoff, Ferrara won the ball forward and got it to D'Alto for the score.
- Ley gave BU a 3-2 lead in the final seconds of the opening quarter. After a D'Alto shot was blocked, Travaglini picked up the loose ball and dished it to Ley for the goal.
- Ley's second of the day came after a Meyer caused turnover. He picked up the ground ball and ran the length of the field before Ley completed a series of passes with a goal on the doorstep.
- The Leopards closed the first half with two goals to take a 5-4 lead into the break.
- D'Alto's second strike of the day just 1:59 into the third quarter evened the score at 5-5, but Lafayette notched the next three goals to create its largest lead of the day at 8-5.
- Bourque scored at 4:51 to cut the deficit to 8-6 before a man-up goal by Perfetto sent the Terriers to the final 15 minutes down by just a goal.
- Perfetto tied the game at 11:59, but Jacob Freeman responded 39 seconds later to retake the lead.
- Bourque responded only 17 seconds later with his second goal of the afternoon to bring the teams level again at 9-9.
- Perfetto then gave BU a 10-9 lead with 4:51 remaining in regulation when he came around the cage from X and scored on a terrific individual effort.
- He then pushed the lead to 11-9 just 25 seconds later. Dziama picked up a loose ball in the middle of the field and raced into the box before dishing to Perfetto for the goal.
- Then, with 1:26 to play, Perfetto added an insurance goal to give BU its largest lead of the day at 12-9.
- Lafayette got a goal back, but senior Conor Calderone won the next faceoff and the Terriers were able to run out the clock.
