Softball to Battle Cal State Fullerton, Challenging Field at Louisville Slugger Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Coming off a doubleheader sweep at the San Diego Classic, the Boston University softball team will wrap its California trip by visiting Cal State Fullerton Wednesday night and then battling five opponents over three days at the Louisville Slugger Invitational.

The Terriers' first three opponents are coming off 2022 NCAA regional berths, starting with defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton at 9 p.m. ET. BU will then head to Long Beach State on Thursday to face defending Big Sky champion Weber State (1 p.m. ET) and No. 12/16 Baylor (3:30 p.m. ET). Friday's schedule will feature Sacramento State (12 p.m. ET) and Columbia (2:30 p.m.) on the docket. In the final game, BU will return to Cal State Fullerton and meet Brown on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU has won a combined five Patriot League weekly honors over the last three weeks after senior Allison Boaz (8-2, 2.25 ERA) was named Pitcher of the Week for the sixth time in her career on Tuesday. She's claimed 40 strikeouts in 53.0 innings while holding opponents to .219 batting average.
  • Junior Lauren Keleher (.450) and senior Caitlin Coker (.283) are tied for the NCAA lead in triples at four apiece.
  • Junior Kayla Roncin (.438) owns a team-high three homers with 15 RBIs, just one behind freshman Brooke Deppiesse (.327).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Cal State Fullerton, 11-9 (Wednesday @ CSUF, 9 p.m. ET)
  • Receiving votes in national polls, the Titans own earlier notable wins over Florida, Oregon, Oregon State, Liberty, Tennessee and Ole Miss after going 37-22 a year prior with an NCAA win over LSU.
  • Megan Delgadillo leads CSUF at .353, while Hannah Becerra (.212) has five homers with 13 RBIs. Jessi Alcala (.258) owns three homers and 12 RBIs as well.
  • Three pitchers have combined for the 20 starts with Myka Sutherlin (4-3, 1.16 ERA) owning 64 strikeouts in 60.1 innings, and Haley Rainey (3-3, 1.37 ERA) earning 43 strikeouts in 46.0 innings.
  • The Titans are batting .246 and holding opponents to .213.
  • CSUF leads the series, 3-2, that dates back to 2017. BU earned a 12-3 win last season after scoring six runs in the seventh.
Weber State, 5-14 (Thursday @ LBSU, 1 p.m. ET)
  • The Wildcats owns notable wins over Oregon State (3-0), DePaul (7-2), UNLV (4-0) and St. Louis (2x) after going 38-12 a year prior. They also have one-run losses to then-No. 22 Arizona State (3-2) and Nebraska (3-2).
  • McKell McCuistion leads WSU at .414 with six doubles, while Lauren Hoe (.292) has five homers and 17 RBIs.
  • Amanda Johnson (5-7, 5.83 ERA) has tallied 35 strikeouts in 57.2 innings, while Brooke Hatfield (0-4, 10.67 ERA) has 13 strikeouts in 20.1 innings).
