BOSTON – Winner of the last four Patriot League regular season titles, the Boston University softball team will open its title defense at Holy Cross on Sunday with the doubleheader set to begin at 12 p.m. Monday's game will take place at 4 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 9-2 in true road games this season with notable wins at 2022 NCAA regional participants, South Florida (8-0) and Cal State Fullerton (10-0). The Terriers most recently earned a DH sweep at Merrimack, 9-0 (5) and 2-1.
- The Terriers rank in the top 50 in nine NCAA categories, including fourth in triples per game (0.47), sixth in shutouts (14) and 14th in fielding percentage (.978).
- Reigning Patriot League Player of the Week and junior Kayla Roncin is 15th nationally at .465 batting average and ninth in hits with 47. She owns a team-high five homers and 26 RBIs along with 27 runs scored.
- Junior Lauren Keleher (.363) and senior Caitlin Coker (.316) are the other two batting over .300 with sophomore Tyesha Williams close behind at .299. Both Coker and freshman Deppiesse are second on the team at 20 RBIs apiece, while Coker owns a team-high 11 stolen bases.
- In the circle, senior Allison Boaz (11-4, 1.65 ERA) has posted 82 strikeouts in 89.0 innings, while freshman Kasey Ricard (8-2, 2.21 ERA) has 81 strikeouts in 63.1 innings. Senior Lizzy Avery (4-1, 1.60 ERA) is holding opponents to just .189 batting average.
- Overall, BU is batting .306 while holding opponents to .209 with a 28-8 advantage in stolen bases 35-14 lead in doubles.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
- The Crusaders will host BU in their first home games of the season following a DH sweep at Stonehill on Wednesday (8-0, 10-6).
- Holy Cross opened league play losing all three at Army West Point (8-3, 9-6, 8-0). Team owns key wins against George Mason (4-2), FIU (1-0) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (14-5, 6-0).
- Anna Brait leads HC at .342 with two homers and 17 runs scored, while both Ali Sniegocki (.321) and Megan Yurchick (.211) own 11 RBIs apiece.
- Yurchick (6-9, 4.74 ERA) has recorded four shutouts by holding opponents to .262 with 34 strikeouts in 75.1 innings. Sophia Roncone (1-9, 7.00 ERA) has tallied 48 strikeouts against 59.0 innings.
- Overall, HC is batting .241 and holding opponents to .291 with an 11-10 edge in homers. Opponents own a 60-14 advantage in stolen bases.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 46-8, with a 21-4 conference record.
- The Terriers have won the last 19 meetings, including the last six by a combined score of 35-1. Only three of those contests though ended via run-rule.
- Last season, BU swept the weekend series by a combined score of 19-0. They will be visiting Worcester for the first time since winning a doubleheader in 2021, 4-0 and 5-1.
