No. 20 BU, No. 9 Army West Point Meet Friday for Regular-Season Title

The No. 20 Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its 10th season on Friday when the Terriers travel to No. 9 Army West Point for the regular-season finale. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m., with the game to be televised live on CBS Sports Network.

The winner of Friday's game will be the Patriot League regular-season champion and host the conference semifinals and final on May 5 and 7 as the tournament's top seed. The loser of Friday's game will be the No. 2 seed for the Patriot League Tournament.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU clinched a top-two seed for the Patriot League Tournament with a 14-11 win over Lehigh on Saturday at Nickerson Field.
  • The Terriers improved to 5-0 at home this season with the victory.
  • Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week Roy Meyer led BU with five caused turnovers and also gathered three ground balls.
  • Graduate student Matt Garber was outstanding in goal for BU, making 17 saves.
  • BU caused 20 of Lehigh's 22 turnovers on Saturday and is currently second in the country with 12.0 caused turnovers per game.
  • Meyer is seventh in the nation and second in the PL at 2.17 caused turnovers per game.
  • Three other BU defenders - senior Patrick Morrison (1.83), sophomore Trey Brown (1.67) and junior Dane DeGoler (1.50) - are fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively, in the Patriot League among caused turnover leaders.
  • The Terriers are also second in the NCAA with an opponent clearing percentage of .786.
  • Senior Louis Perfetto led the Terrier offense against Lehigh, scoring three goals and adding four assists for seven points.
  • Perfetto is currently eighth in the NCAA and third in the Patriot League with 2.58 assists per game.
  • He leads BU with 31 total assists and is second on the team with 56 points, three behind senior Vince D'Alto.
  • D'Alto also leads the Terriers with 39 goals and is three points away from joining graduate student Timmy Ley as the only Terriers with 200 points.
  • BU is third in the country and first in the Patriot League on EMOs, succeeding on 62.2 percent of its man-up chances, including five of six opportunities against Lehigh.
  • D'Alto (8) and Ley (7) are fourth and ninth in the nation, respectively, in man-up goals.

HISTORY WITH ARMY WEST POINT

  • BU is 3-8 all-time against Army, though one of those three victories was a 14-10 triumph in last year's PL title game.
  • BU hosted Army in the final game of the 2022 regular season, with the Black Knights earning a 15-14 win.
  • The Terriers' lone victory in West Point came on April 6, 2019, when Jake Cates scored four goals in a 15-13 comeback win.

SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS

  • Army West Point remained in the top 10 of both national polls this week, coming in at No. 9 after an 11-6 win at Navy on Saturday.
  • The Black Knights lost their opener at UMass, but have since won 10 of their last 11 games, including all seven Patriot League  contests.
  • Junior Reese Burek leads Army with 46 points and is tied for first on the team in both goals (26) and assists (20).
  • Freshman Evan Plunkett is second on the squad with 37 points thanks to 17 goals and 20 assists while junior Jacob Morin is tied with Burke for the goal scoring lead.
  • Sophomore Christian Fournier leads the Black Knights with 19 caused turnovers.
  • Army boasts the fourth-ranked faceoff unit in the NCAA at 61.6%, led by sophomore Will Coletti at 61.4%, good for 12th in the nation.
  • Senior Knox Dent is second in the NCAA with a 8.36 goals-against average and is 19th in the country with a .525 save percentage.
  • As a team, Army has allowed just 8.08 goals per game, which is second in the nation.
