Softball to Open Home PL Series with Army Friday, Honor Senior Class Saturday

BOSTON – Riding a 23-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will wrap up the home regular season slate with a three game series starting Friday at 2 p.m. After competing in the doubleheader, the Terriers will honor a six-member senior class on Saturday and then take on the Black Knights a third time at 12 p.m.

BU will recognize graduate student Nicole Amodio, graduate student Emily Gant, senior Lizzy Avery, senior Allison Boaz, senior Caitlin Coker and senior Audrey Sellers. The Terriers are coming off Tuesday's 11-0 run-rule win at Boston College, while the Black Knights are looking to bounce back from a doubleheader loss at Binghamton (10-6, 6-1).

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The win over BC helped BU tie the 2009 squad for most wins (43) and the 1996 team for most shutouts (22) in program history.
  • The Terriers' 23-game win streak is the second longest in both BU and Patriot League history behind last season's record-breaking 27-game win streak.
  • Junior Kayla Roncin leads BU at .448 with 77 hits, four shy of her own program record and eight away from tying the PL record while tallying 45 RBIs and 45 runs scored.
  • Junior Lauren Keleher is batting a personal-best .394 with a team-high 14 doubles alongside 39 runs scored, while Coker (.342) owns an NCAA-high nine triples alongside 45 runs scored and 39 RBIs.
  • Overall, BU has seven batters hitting over .300 with Gant and Keleher one RBI away from 30.
  • In the circle, senior Allison Boaz (19-4, 1.42 ERA) has tallied 126 strikeouts in 138.1 innings, while freshman Kasey Ricard (17-2, 4 SVs, 1.64 ERA) has posted 172 strikeouts in 128.0 innings . Senior Lizzy Avery (7-1, 1.50 ERA) won the last two games against Colgate last weekend to keep BU unbeaten in league play.
  • The Terriers are batting .323 as a team and are holding opponents to .198 with a 59-21 advantage in doubles and 60-14 lead in stolen bases.
SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT
  • The Black Knights are 7-5 in conference play with a series sweep against Holy Cross and three losses against Lehigh alongside 2-1 performances against Bucknell and Colgate. Three of the losses have been by a combind four runs.
  • On the non-conference front, Army owns notable wins against Kansas (2-1), a squad with a current RPI ranking of 60, and two victories against Buffalo.
  • Kayla Edwards leads Army batting .336 and is tied with Angelina Bebek (.321) at eight doubles apiece. Both Taylor Brown (.295) and Ahston White (.239) own 26 RBIs apiece.
  • Breanna Izzo (6-6, 5.32 ERA) owns two saves and has tallied 55 strikeouts in 94.2 innings. Amanda Eaglin (6-7, 5.68 ERA), Allcyn Grete (2-7, 6.44 ERA) and Olivia Farris (3-9, 7.46 ERA) have all tallied double-digit starts.
  • Army is batting .258 while holding opponents to .315 with a 20-20 tie in homers. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 22-11, with an 11-6 home record.
  • The Terriers are 12-1 over the last 13 meetings with three run-rule wins and six one-run decisions.
  • In the lone loss during the stretch, Army ended BU's 17-game win streak in 2021 with a 7-4 win.
  • Last year, BU won a pair of extra-inning games, 2-0 (8) and 2-1 (9), before claiming an 11-1 (5) victory.
UP NEXT
  • BU will wrap up the regular season at Lehigh in a three-game series on May 6-7.
