Top-Seeded Terriers Set to Host Loyola in PL Semifinals Friday at Nickerson

The No. 14/15 and top-seeded Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its 10th season on Friday when the Terriers welcome fourth-seeded Loyola Maryland to Boston for the first of two Patriot League semifinal matchups at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., with the game to be televised live on CBS Sports Network.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU, the defending Patriot League Tournament champion, earned its second straight Patriot League regular-season title with a thrilling 12-11 win at then-No. 9 Army last Friday.
  • Senior Thomas Niedringhaus broke an 11-11 tie with 2:51 remaining in regulation with his second goal of the night.
  • Graduate student Matt Garber then made a terrific man-down save with 1:52 left to preserve the win.
  • Senior Patrick Morrison was named PL Defensive Player of the Week after he had two caused turnovers and six ground balls, including a caused turnover and ground ball that led to the game-winning possession.
  • Senior Vince D'Alto led BU with five points (2g, 3a), including the 200th point of his career.
  • D'Alto and graduate student Timmy Ley are the only two Terriers in program history to have recorded 200 points.
  • A league-high seven Terriers earned All-Patriot League accolades, including four first-team selections.
  • D'Alto, Morrison, senior Roy Meyer and senior Louis Perfetto collected First Team All-Patriot League honors while Niedringhaus, Ley and junior Tommy Bourque received second-team recognition.
  • Meyer and Ley were also named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
  • BU is 5-0 at home this year and is 13-2 at Nickerson Field since the start of last season.
  • The Terriers are 4-1 all-time at home in the playoffs.
  • BU leads the country with 12.0 caused turnovers per game and is the only team in the NCAA with four different players who have at least 20 caused turnovers.
  • The Terriers are once again one of the top riding teams in the nation, entering the weekend second in the NCAA and first in the PL in that category with an opponent clear percentage of .785.
  • BU is third in the NCAA and first in the Patriot League in assists per game, averaging 9.23 helpers in its first 13 games.

HISTORY WITH LOYOLA

  • BU has won three straight against Loyola, including a 16-9 home win on April 15.
  • The Terriers are 4-5 all-time against Loyola, including three consecutive victories at Nickerson.
  • That three-game home win streak includes an 18-11 victory on April 13, 2019, when Loyola was No. 2 in the country.
  • BU also enjoyed a famous win over the Greyhounds on April 15, 2017, when James Burr scored in overtime to secure a 12-11 victory and the Terriers' first-ever Patriot League postseason berth.
  • The two teams have met once in the playoffs, with sixth-seeded BU falling to top-seeded Loyola, 13-8, in the 2018 semifinals.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Loyola secured its trip to Boston with a 12-7 quarterfinal win at fourth-seeded Navy on Tuesday.
  • Evan James scored six goals and Luke Staudt made 18 saves to lead Loyola against the Mids.
  • Matthew Minicus leads Loyola with 45 points thanks to a team-best 32 goals.
  • Davis Lindsey is tops on the team with 17 assists while Adam Poitras is second on the squad in goals (27), assists (13) and points (40).
  • Eric Pacheco has gone 128-of-298 (.430) and leads Loyola with 76 ground balls.
  • Matt Hughes paces the Greyhounds with 22 caused turnovers.
  • Staudt has started all 13 games in which he has appeared, posting a .546 save percentage and an 11.26 goals-against average.
