Terriers, Eagles to Kick Off 45th Dunkin' Women's Beanpot on Tuesday (NESN, ESPN+, TSN+)

BOSTON - Beanpot season starts early this year as the 45th Dunkin' Women's Beanpot will get underway on Tuesday (Jan. 16) at Harvard when Boston University takes on archrival Boston College in the first semifinal. Game time is set for 4 p.m.  

Northeastern and Harvard will face off in the late semifinal and the tournament will move to Causeway Street on Jan. 23 for a historic night as the consolation and championship games will be the first-ever women's hockey contests ever played at TD Garden. 

For the semifinals, students from the four schools get in free with a student ID.  
 

BEANPOT NOTES

  • The Terriers are 10-18-6 in Beanpot games, including an 6-11 record in semifinals, since becoming a varsity program in 2005.
  • BU has won two Beanpot championships - one in 2019 and another in 1981 as a club team.
  • The Terriers have eight Beanpot semifinal wins with six of them coming as a varsity program.
  • BU and BC haven't met in the Beanpot since 2020, when the Terriers earned a 4-0 home win in the semifinals.
  • The Terriers and Eagles have met in the Beanpot just eight times since BU became a varsity program and the Terriers are 2-5-1 in those games.
     

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • The Terriers are averaging 7.1 shots more per game than their opponents this season. At this time last year, BU had a minus-8.4 shot differential, resulting in a plus-15.5 swing one year later.
  • Senior Lacey Martin, who scored her first career hat trick on Nov. 4, leads the team in both goals (9) and assists (9) for 18 points.
  • Senior Catherine Foulem (7g, 6a) and sophomore Clara Yuhn (5g, 7a) have added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
  • Freshman Alex Law, the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month in December, has eight points (2g, 6a) in her past nine games.
  • Sophomore Luisa Welcke has a four-game goal streak snapped on Saturday at UConn.
  • The Terriers' penalty kill is operating at 89.6 percent, which ranks second in Hockey East and sixth in the nation.
  • Graduate student Alexa Matses (4-7-1, 2.59, .898) and freshman Mari Pietersen (5-2-1, 2.85, .864) have shared time in goal all season and junior Callie Shanahan made her season debut on Friday after being injured last semester.
  • Graduate student Nadia Mattivi (2g, 8a) and senior Andi Calderone (3g, 7a) rank tied for fourth among Hockey East defenders in points per game at 0.48.
  • The Terriers rank second among Hockey East teams and ninth nationally in faceoff percentage at 54.5.
     

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

  • Boston College is back in the national rankings and enters Tuesday on a six-game unbeated streak (4-0-2). 
  • This past weekend, the Eagles earned a 5-0 home win over Holy Cross on Friday before tying UNH, 2-2, on Saturday before falling in the shootout for the extra league point.
  • BC stands in first place in the Hockey East standings with 35 points (11-3-3).
  • Freshman Sammy Taber leads the Eagles in points (25) and assists (17).
  • Graduate student Sammy Smigliani has added 20 points (9g, 11a) as part of a balanced scoring attack with eight players having double-digit points.
  • Senior Gaby Roy has a team-best 10 goals with all of them coming in Hockey East play.
  • Sophomore Grace Campbell has started all 22 games in goal and has a 2.37 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.
     

SERIES HISTORY VS. BC

  • The Terriers and Eagles have met 68 times since BU became a varsity program in 2005, and BC holds a 37-24-7 advantage in the series.
  • BU is 5-6-0 in the past 11 meetings but the Eagles have won five straight to match the longest win streak in the series (BC also won five straight from Nov. 7, 2015, to Nov, 4, 2016).
     
UP NEXT
  • The Terriers will host Vermont for a weekend series on Jan. 19-20.
  • Game time on Friday at Walter Brown Arena is set for 6 p.m. while Saturday's contest will start at 3 p.m.
