BOSTON – Despite senior
Anthony Morales scoring over 20 points for the second consecutive contest, the Boston University men's basketball team fell to Bucknell, 73-57, on Wednesday night at Case Gym.
Down by as many as 20 early in the second half, the Terriers (7-11, 2-3 PL) rallied to within six at 4:44, but the Bison (6-12, 3-2 PL) responded with an 11-3 run over the next three minutes to pull away.
Morales flushed four 3-pointers over the final 16 minutes en route to a team-high 21 points, while freshman
Kyrone Alexander tallied nine points. Sophomore
Otto Landrum came up just short of his second double-double with eight points alongside eight rebounds, and senior
Miles Brewster dished out six assists.
Jack Forrest posted 26 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead the Bison, while Elvin Edmonds IV nearly had a triple-double behind 12 points, 10 assists and seven boards. Noah Williamson (13 pts.) and Ruot Bijiek (12 pts.) combined for 25 points and 13 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bijiek opened with a 3-pointer and pushed the lead to 18-8 at 9:05 on a pair of free throws, as the Terriers started the contest 4-of-19.
- Edmonds scored from behind the arc at 6:53 and followed with a jumper to move ahead, 25-11.
- Facing a 33-16 deficit with 2:18 left, Morales and Landrum hit back-to-back jumpers to enter the locker room down, 33-20.
- After Morales and Forrest exchanged 3-pointers at 16:03, Mottai responded with one of his own to spark an 8-1 spurt capped by Bijiek's trey at 13:31 to grab the Bison's largest lead, 49-29.
- Forrest converted on a 3-point play to maintain the lead, 52-32, at 12:13, before Morales led an 18-4 rally with 14 points over the next eight minutes.
- Mottai directed the 11-3 response with a 3-pointer and layup to help the Bison pull away.
GAME NOTES
- Morales became the first Terrier to reach 20+ points in back-to-back games this season.
- Brewster has tallied at least five assists in a game four times this season.
- Morales is a combined 9-of-22 (.409) over the last three contests from behind the arc.
- The Bison snapped BU's four-game home win streak in the series, last winning in January 2018.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will visit defending Patriot League champion Colgate on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 2 p.m.
- The Raiders have won the last three meetings and have also won the last five contests in Hamilton, New York, since BU prevailed in the 2020 PL title game.
