BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Graduate students
Vince D'Alto,
Roy Meyer and
Patrick Morrison of the Boston University men's lacrosse team were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, the conference announced on Thursday.
In addition to those individual honors, the two-time defending regular-season champion Terriers were picked to finish second by the league's coaches and college sports communicators, who were not allowed to vote for their own team or student-athletes. BU earned 103 points and one first-place vote, trailing only defending PL Tournament champion Army West Point, which garnered 126 points and 14 first-place votes. Loyola Maryland tallied 99 points to finish third, Navy placed fourth with 84 points and one first-place vote, and Lehigh totaled 82 points and one first-place vote to round out the top five. Lafayette earned 60 points and one first-place vote for sixth place, followed by Bucknell (44), Colgate (33), and Holy Cross (17).
This is the second straight year that all three standouts have earned preseason honors from the Patriot League. All three were selected as preseason All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine earlier this month.
Arguably the best offensive player in the Patriot League last season, D'Alto led the Terriers in both goals (44) and points (68) while dishing out 24 assists. He was 10th in the NCAA last year with 4.86 points per game after recording at least one point in all 14 starts. Impressively, D'Alto committed just 15 turnovers, which was the fewest among the top-10 point producers per game in the country. D'Alto finished the season with 25 points in his last five games to help BU win its second straight Patriot League regular-season title. He also began the year with six straight games of five or more points and twice scored six goals in a game, including at Yale on April 4.
D'Alto, a two-time First Team All-Patriot League selection, became just the second Terrier in program history to record 200 career points and finished the year with 206 points on 126 goals and 80 assists. One of four Terriers to have scored 100 goals in their BU career, D'Alto is among the top three BU men's lacrosse players in goals, assists and points. He also ranks seventh among active NCAA players with 4.48 points per game.Â
Meyer has firmly established himself as the best LSM in the country over the past two seasons. The only two-time First Team All-American in program history, Meyer once again helped BU rank first in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (12.07). He finished the year with a team-high 32 caused turnovers and was fourth in the country with 2.29 caused turnovers per game, finishing the season with 11 caused turnovers over his last three games. Meyer recorded at least two ground balls in all 14 games and his 64 ground balls ranked second on the squad behind only faceoff specialistÂ
Conor Calderone. Meyer also scored a career-high three goals in 2023.
A two-time First Team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League honoree, Meyer is the only active player in the NCAA with over 100 caused turnovers. He tops the Terrier record book with 118 caused turnovers and is also fourth all-time (second among non-faceoff specialists) in program history with 183 ground balls. The E. Ray Speare Award winner as the department's top male senior scholar-athlete, Meyer has recorded an impressive 90 caused turnovers and 145 ground balls over the past two seasons.
Morrison was the Terriers' top close defender in 2023 en route to a second consecutive First Team All-Patriot League accolade. Typically tasked with covering the opponent's top attackman, Morrison set career highs with 46 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers en route to four Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week awards. He closed season with two caused turnovers in five straight games and averaged 4.0 ground balls per game over final three regular-season contests. Morrison gathered six ground balls and two caused turnovers in the regular-season finale at then-No. 9 Army West Point, including a caused turnover and ground ball late in the fourth quarter to set up the game-winning possession that help secured a second straight PL regular-season title.
A three-year starter on defense, Morrison has recorded 113 ground balls and 56 caused turnovers during his illustrious career. He is a two-time First Team All-New England honoree who ranks fifth all-time at BU in caused turnovers and eighth all-time at BU in ground balls. His 113 ground balls is fifth all-time among non-faceoff specialists.
