
Terriers to Open Home-and-Home Weekend with Crusaders on Friday at Walter Brown

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team will start a stretch of nine straight Hockey East contests to close the regular season with a home-and-home series against Holy Cross on Friday (Jan. 26) and Saturday (Jan. 27).
Friday's game will take place at Walter Brown Arena beginning at 6 p.m. while Saturday's contest in Worcester will start at 7 p.m. Both games will be available on ESPN+.
BU enters the weekend fifth in the Hockey East standings with 27 points while Holy Cross is at the bottom of the league with eight points.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 5-3-2 in its past 10 games.
- The Terriers are averaging 6.7 shots more per game than their opponents this season. At this time last year, BU had a minus-8.7 shot differential, resulting in a plus-15.4 swing one year later.
- Senior Lacey Martin leads the team in both goals (12) and points (21) and had a three-game goal streak snapped on Tuesday.
- Sophomore Clara Yuhn (6g, 11a) and senior Catherine Foulem (10g, 6a) have added 17 and 16 points, respectively.
- Sophomore Luisa Welcke has scored a goal in five of the past nine games while classmate Sydney Healey has a point in each of the past five contests.
- Freshman Alex Law, the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month in December, has 10 points (2g, 8a) in her past 13 games.
- Graduate student Alexa Matses (5-7-1, 2.54, .898) and freshman Mari Pietersen (5-2-1, 2.85, .864) shared time in goal for the first three months of the season and junior Callie Shanahan (1-2-1, 2.48, .890) returned from injury earlier this moth and has made four starts.
- Led by graduate student Nadia Mattivi (3g, 10a) and senior Tamara Giaquinto (2g, 9a), BU has five of the top 15 defenders in Hockey East in points.
- The Terriers are second in Hockey East in penalty kill at 91.1%, which is good for third in the nation.
- The Terriers are also second in the league in faceoff percentage at 53.9%, which ranks 12th in the country.
- BU and Wisconsin are the only teams in the nation to have five defenders with at least nine points apiece.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
- Holy Cross will be looking to snap an eight-game losing streak that started in the beginning of December.
- The Crusaders are coming off two losses to Providence in a home-and-home series by scores of 3-1 and 5-2.
- Senior Millie Sirum (7g, 8a) and sophomore Alexia Moreau (6g, 8a) lead the team with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
- Senior Madison Beck has started the majority of contests for the Crusaders, posting a .919 save percentage and a 2.43 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY VS. HOLY CROSS
- The Terriers are 10-3-0 all-time against Holy Cross, including a 6-0-0 record at Walter Brown Arena.
- BU dropped its final two contests versus the Crusaders last season but rebounded with a 2-1 home win in their first meeting this season on Dec. 8 at Walter Brown Arena
- Sophomore Luisa Welcke scored the game-winner back in December and junior Ani FitzGerald opening the scoring with her first goal as a Terrier.
