BOSTON – Playing the second of three games over a six-day stretch, the Boston University men's basketball team will head to Patriot League leader Lafayette on Saturday afternoon with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
Through seven contests, the Leopards are atop the standings at 7-0, while the Terriers are currently in a four-way tie for sixth at 2-5. Lafayette won the first meeting between the two squads, 59-51, at Case Gym on Jan. 6 by shooting 50 percent in the second half and allowing just 29.0 FG% over the final 20 minutes of action to overcome an early 11-point deficit.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU enters contest looking to snap its second three-game losing streak of the season. After opening the year 0-3, BU posted a 95-79 home win over Bryant.
- The Terriers are 3-8 on the road this season with a 1-2 mark in PL play. Coincidentally, all three teams trailing at the half came back in the second for the win with BU prevailing at Loyola Maryland (60-58) alongside losses at Navy (62-60) and Colgate (75-59).
- Senior Miles Brewster leads BU at 9.8 ppg, 3.2 apg and 1.6 spg while averaging 3.7 rpg. In Wednesday's 69-59 loss to Army, he dished out at least five assists for the fifth time this season.
- Freshman Kyrone Alexander earned a game-high 14 points against the Black Knights to increase his scoring average to 7.1 ppg, as he reached double figures for the fifth time.
- Sophomore Otto Landrum (7.8 ppg) owns a team-high 6.1 rpg ahead of junior Ethan Okwuosa (8.2 ppg, 4.7 rpg) while leading BU in blocks at 12 total.
- Held below 60 points each of the last three games for the first time since the end of the 2010-11 season, BU is currently averaging 63.8 ppg and 39.8 FG% while holding opponents to 66.3 ppg and 42.4 FG%.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
- The Leopards are 4-4 with PL wins over Bucknell (75-72 OT), Navy (78-62) and Army (52-47) following a 78-60 non-conference loss to Quinnipiac.
- Five of Lafayette's PL wins were by eight or less points. The Leopards most recently though rolled to a 70-44 victory at Loyola Maryland.
- Justin Vander Baan leads Lafayette at 9.7 ppg and 4.9 rpg while boasting 51 blocks, six more than BU's combined total.
- Averaging 2.0 3-pointers per game, Eric Sondberg is second on the team at 9.2 ppg, just ahead of Kyle Jenkins (8.7 ppg), while Mark Butler (8.0 ppg) owns a team-high 3.8 apg.
- Lafayette is averaging 62.1 ppg and 40.4 FG% while holding opponents to 66.9 ppg and 41.4 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 19-10, following the Leopards' 59-51 win three weeks ago.
- Plagued by foul trouble, both Nobili and Landrum combined for 25 points, while Vander Baan and Jenkins combined for 30 points.
- Both home teams won in overtime last season by four points apiece with the Terriers scoring the last bucket at the end of regulation both times.
- Lafayette will be seeking its first ever regular season sweep against BU.
