BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (1-3-0, 1-1-0 HE) fell short to No. 12/13 Northeastern (3-2-0, 1-0-0 HE) in a 4-0 decision on Friday evening at Matthews Arena.

Northeastern opened the scoring late in the first and tacked on two goals in the second to build a 3-0 lead which it did not relinquish. After the Huskies scored their fourth and final goal, BU pulled Pietersen from the posts for the extra skater but could not find the back of the net.Â

Callie Shanahan made 15 stops across the first two frames and sophomore
Mari Pietersen made four in the final period. Northeastern's goaltender, Paige Taborski, made 26 saves between the posts.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northeastern opened the scoring when it found the back of the net on a breakaway chance just 4:25 into the first frame.
- The Huskies served a penalty for hooking at 15:17 but nothing came of the power play chanceÂ
- The Terriers were called for interference at the end of the first and successfully killed the penalty at the beginning of the second.
- BU had two power play chances which turned into 4-on-4 situations a minute into the advantage but neither team scored during their power plays.
- Seventeen seconds after BU killed its second penalty of the frame, Northeastern came away with the puck and built its lead to 2-0.
- The Huskies tacked on another goal with 31 seconds left in the frame when they took the puck up the ice to go ahead 3-0.
- Pietersen entered the net at the start of the third.
- The third featured a combined seven penalties with the most notable occurring when BU and Northeastern were called for roughing and Northeastern was also called for tripping.
- BU challenged the roughing call for head contact but was unsuccessful.
- The Terriers then successfully fended off a 5-on-3 situation in Northeastern's favor.
- With 5:10 to go in the game, the Huskies scored their fourth and final goal.
- BU added an extra attacker and pulled Pietersen from the net but came up short, resulting in the 4-0 loss.
