BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball program fell to UAlbany, 72-36, on Tuesday evening at Case Gym.
Senior
Alex Giannaros paced seven different Terriers in scoring with 14 points. Sophomore
Bella McLaughlin added seven points and six rebounds.
Kaci Donovan dropped 30 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including four three-pointers. Kayla Cooper and Jessica Tomasetti added 15 and 12 points, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After UAlbany scored the game's first bucket, BU went ahead on a 7-0 run with a three from Giannaros, a layup from freshman Allison Schwertner and free throws from McLaughlin.
- Junior Anete Adler's baseline fadeaway jumper pushed BU ahead 13-8, but the Great Danes ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run for an 18-13 advantage.
- That burst extended to 28-6 throughout the second quarter as BU shot just 25 percent in the frame, trailing 36-19 at halftime.
- UAlbany scored the first eight second-half points before Giannaros canned a straightaway three-pointer with 5:21 on the clock in the third quarter.
- Sophomore Audrey Ericksen sank a layup and classmate Inés Monteagudo Pardo drained a three-pointer in the third quarter, but UAlbany extended its advantage to 57-29 heading into the final frame.
- McLaughlin, Giannaros and sophomore Sisi Bentley accounted for field goals in the fourth quarter before the Great Danes held BU scoreless in the final 6:11 of regulation.
STATS
- BU made just over 29 percent of its shots, while UAlbany shot nearly 47 percent from the field.
- The Great Danes turned 20 Terrier turnovers into 30 points.
- BU posted 20 rebounds, with McLaughlin and Ericksen each leading the team with six.
NOTES
- Giannaros moved into 21st place in program history in the effort, surpassing Annemarie Olson '94 and Aly Hinton '10 to stand at 1,085 career points.
- BU closes the 2024 calendar year with a 12-3 record at Case Gym.
- The all-time series shifts to 20-10, remaining in the Terriers' favor.
