Men's Basketball Heads South to American for Wednesday Night Tilt

BOSTON – Flying south for a midweek Patriot League matchup, the Boston University men's basketball team will visit American on Wednesday night with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

Only four games remain this regular season, and the Terriers currently sit in a tie for sixth with Army West Point, one game behind both Lehigh and Bucknell and one ahead of No. 8 Holy Cross. American currently sits in third just two games in front of BU.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is 3-4 on the road in conference play with wins over Bucknell and current No. 2 Lafayette. 
  • In Saturday's 74-65 home win vs. Navy, three-time PL Rookie of the Week Kyrone Alexander matched sophomore Otto Landrum at 19 points apiece to help the Terriers avenge an earlier 62-60 loss to the Midshipmen. 
  • Senior Miles Brewster posted a career-high 21 points in the last meeting against American and remains the team leader in points (10.2 ppg), assists (3.1 apg) and steals (1.5 spg).
  • Highlighted by a 26-point performance at Lafayette, Landrum is second at 8.9 ppg while averaging a team-high 5.8 rpg with 21 blocks. 
  • Third on the team at 8.6 ppg, senior Anthony Morales appeared against Navy after missing the previous seven games due to injury. He netted a career-high 24 points at Loyola Maryland and followed up with 21 at home vs. Bucknell.
  • Four Terriers are averaging between 4.0-4.2 rebounds per game. BU is 8-8 this season when outrebounding opponents compared to their 3-8 mark when finishing behind.
  • BU is averaging 64.3 ppg and 40.6 FG% while holding opponents to 65.8 ppg and 42.8 FG%.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
  • Highlighted by non-conference wins over Siena (78-58) and NJIT (87-73), the Eagles are 8-4 at home compared to their 6-9 road record. However, they have lost three of the last four meetings, including most recently a 68-62 decision to Lafayette this past Saturday.
  • Preseason All-PL honoree and 6-foot-9 forward Matt Rogers is averaging a team-high 16.1 ppg along with 6.3 rpg while shooting 50.8 percent from the field.
  • 5-foot-9 guard Elijah Stephens matched Brewster in the last meeting with 21 points and is currently second on the team at 11.9 ppg with 5.1 apg.
  • First-year head coach Duane Simpkins spent the past eight seasons as an assistant coach at George Mason.
  • The Eagles are averaging 69.9 ppg and 45.2 FG% while holding opponents to 68.3 ppg and 45.4 FG%. AU is averaging 9.0 made 3-pointers but is allowing 8.6 per game.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 14-9, having won five of the last six games.
  • Back in January, BU overcame a seven-point deficit to win, 72-68, at home. The Terriers shot 50 percent from the field with eight 3-pointers during the second half.
  • The home team won both contests last year with the Terriers avenging a 76-64 road loss with a 60-54 home victory.

  • BU will return home to host Loyola Maryland on Sunday (Feb. 25) at 2 p.m.
