Terriers Earn Four Gold Medals on Day One of Patriot League Championships

BOSTON – The Boston University track & field teams opened day one of the Patriot League Championships with four gold-medal performances and five additional podium appearances. At the close of day one, the women's squad is in first with 70 points and the men's group sits in third with 37 points.
 
Top Dogs
  • Sophomore Ellie Roan earned BU's first medal of the meet in the women's weight throw with a mark of 19.93m (65' 4.75") to re-break her own school record she set a weekend ago.
  • Sophomore Peace Omonzane earned BU's next gold medal in the long jump with a 5.95m (19' 6.25") mark.
  • Continuing the sophomore success was Vera Sjöberg who took home first in the 5,000m with a time of 16:11.33. That makes her fifth all-time in BU history. 
  • The final gold medal of the day came from junior Ryan Rosenberger who secured his first-ever Patriot League gold medal in the long jump with a mark of 7.16m (23' 6").
 
Podium Appearances
  • Senior Emma Kowalski placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 18.65m (61' 2.25").
  • Junior Asia Hamilton took third in the long jump with a 5.75m (18' 10.5").
  • Sophomore Freddy Collins earned second in the 5,000m with a time of 14:09.18, the tenth-best all time BU time.
  • Both of BU's 4x800m squads finished in the top three. Sophomores Moritz Ebbeskotte, Parker Schneider, freshman Daniel Demonte and graduate student Foster Malleck (7:33.03) placed second while sophomores Lily Borin, Olivia Dodds, Kate Edenson and freshman Adrienne Buettner-Cable (8:59.47) placed third.
 
Top 10 Terriers
  • The women's 4x800m squad ran the fourth-best mark in BU history and the men's 4x800m ran the fifth-best mark in BU history.
  • Sophomore Uchenna Uba set the third-best mark in the weight throw with a 18.27m (59' 11.25").
  • Freshman Abigail Wagner set the second-best mark in BU history in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.70m (12' 1.5").
  • Freshman Shamiso Sikaneta ran the seventh-fastest time in the 800m with a 1:50.01
  • Rosenberger ran 8.38 in the 60m hurdles for the sixth-fastest time in BU history.
  • Senior Stuart Bladon also ran a top-10 mark in the 60m hurdles with a 8.55 for the seventh-fastest mark.
  • Junior Allison Schneider made her Terrier debut in the pentathlon, scoring 3,335 for the seventh-best points total in BU history.
