CONWAY, S.C. – Boosted by freshman
Kylie Doherty's pair of extra-base hits, the No. 22/23 Boston University softball claimed an 8-6 victory at Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night.
With their second consecutive road win against a squad sitting at No. 77 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings, the Terriers improve to 18-1, while the Chanticleers drop to 17-8.
Doherty nearly doubled her season total in RBIs, as she delivered a solo homer in the second and a bases-clearing triple in the fourth before scoring on sophomore
Brooke Deppiesse's RBI single. Both Terriers were joined by graduate student
Caitlin Coker to earning two hits apiece, while senior
Lauren Keleher went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Graduate student
Audrey Sellers earned her own homer in the second as well and caught behind home plate for both sophomore
Kasey Ricard and graduate student
Allison Boaz (6-0), who combined for three strikeouts. Ricard was one out away from taking an 8-0 run to the fourth, but CCU with two on base connected for three straight homers against the reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week. Boaz then pitched the final 3.1 innings, holding the Chanticleers to just two hits alongside four walks to secure the victory.
BU will next compete against four straight Power 5 opponents for the first time in 15 years when it visits the University of South Carolina for the Garnet & Black Invitational. The Terriers will first face the host Gamecocks on Thursday (March 14) starting at 5 p.m.
