WEST POINT, N.Y. – Facing an early three-run deficit, the No. 24 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team touched home plate an unanswered 18 times to claim the doubleheader sweep at Army West Point in the Patriot League opener for both squads.
With the help of sophomore
Kasey Ricard's 18 combined strikeouts and the offense's 12 extra-base hits, the Terriers improve to 24-3, while the Black Knights fall to 4-21. Ricard (11-2) earned both victories, as she first held Army to just two hits over the final five innings in the 9-3 game-one victory and then pitched her third no-hitter of the season in the 9-0 (5) run-rule game-two win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights struck first in the bottom of the second with two runs off four hits against Boaz, including back-to-back two-out RBI singles.
- Avery replaced Boaz in the circle to start the third but allowed a pair of singles to start, leading to Ricard to enter the game.
- Army struck out three times but managed a one-out RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0 entering the fourth.
- Avery started the comeback with a lead-off single that led to senior pinch-runner Kate Pryor scoring on Doherty's RBI double to center.
- Boaz hit a hard liner that was deflected by the pitcher to cut the deficit to 3-2.
- Avery tied the game in the fifth by earning a two-out walk and scoring on Doherty's go-ahead homer to center.
- BU pulled away in the top of the seventh with five runs off six hits, including Boaz's two-out, two-run homer to left and Keleher's three-run double down the right field line.
- Ricard sealed the victory with her ninth strikeout to end the game.
GAME 2: #24 Boston University - 9, Army West Point - 0 (5 inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Roncin started the game with her second triple of the DH and scored on graduate student Caitlin Coker's RBI double to center.
- One inning later, Roncin followed Keleher's two-out RBI single with a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.
- After Ricard struck out the side, Doherty doubled to center and reached home plate on sophomore Brooke Deppiesse's RBI double in the third inning.
- Keleher started the four-run fourth with a solo homer and then watched Avery deliver a two-out, two-RBI double and score on Boaz's RBI single to center.
- After earning three fly outs in the fourth, Ricard recorded three strikeouts against one hit-by-pitch to claim a no-hit shutout.
DOUBLEHEADER NOTES
- Ricard's three no-hitters this season, including a five-inning perfect game at Coastal Carolina and six-inning shutout against Binghamton, mark the most by a Terrier since Cassidi Hardy ('10) totaled three in 2009.
- Boaz became the seventh Terrier to hit a homer this season after hitting her first career homer in 2021.
- Keleher owns five homers this year after earning four over her first three seasons.
- BU extended its win streak against Army to a series-best 12 games.

- Since the doubleheader was moved up a day to avoid inclement weather, the Terriers will have Saturday (March 23) off and then wrap up the three-game series on Sunday (March 24) with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
