March 24, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - The No. 2 Boston University men's ice hockey team will be the top seed in the NCAA Sioux Falls Regional and face No. 18 RIT in the opening round, as announced Sunday night on the NCAA selection show on ESPNU. The game will take place on Thursday (March 28) at 5 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
BU, which advanced to the Frozen Four last season, will be making its 39th NCAA Tournament appearance. This will not only be the first meeting between BU and RIT but also the first time the Terriers have ever played a game in South Dakota. Third-seeded Omaha is the host of the regional and will face second-seeded Minnesota in the second regional semifinal on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
RIT (27-10-2), which has been a fixture in the national polls this season, claimed an automatic bid to this year's tournament after defeating AIC in the Atlantic Hockey title game on Saturday night. This is the fourth time that the Tigers have qualified for the NCAA Tournament and first time since 2016. RIT made a historic run to the 2010 Frozen Four in its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, upsetting top-seeded Denver, 2-1, and defeating New Hampshire, 6-2, in Albany, before falling, 8-1, to Wisconsin in the national semifinals.
The two winners from Thursday's contests will meet on Saturday (March 30) at 6:30 p.m. ET for a spot in the Frozen Four. That game will be televised on ESPNU.
