BOSTON – Riding a six-game win streak, the No. 25 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team will visit defending Big East regular season champion UConn on Tuesday with the doubleheader set for a 3:15 p.m. first pitch.

The regional rivals were originally scheduled to have a single-game home-and-away series this spring but reshuffled the schedule to make it a single doubleheader in Storrs, Connecticut.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU ranks in the top 100 nationally in 13 NCAA statistical categories, including fifth in fielding percentage at .981, sixth in shutouts (11), 11th in ERA (1.65) and 11th in batting average (.339).
  • After being held below four runs just three times through the first 19 contests though, the Terriers have scored fewer than four runs four times over the last nine contests, including Sunday's 3-0 (9) win at Army West Point.
  • BU's first three batters in the lineup are all batting over .400 with senior Lauren Keleher hitting .444 ahead of classmate Kayla Roncin (.434) and graduate student Caitlin Coker (.406).
  • Roncin leads BU with 24 RBIs, while Keleher has a team-high nine doubles and five homers alongside 23 RBIs.
  • In the circle, sophomore Kasey Ricard (12-2, 1.64 ERA) has 106 strikeouts in 89.2 innings and ranks tied-for-first nationally at eight shutouts.
  • Both graduate students Allison Boaz (9-1, 1.64 ERA) and Lizzy Avery (4-0, 1.75 ERA) while combining for 23 RBIs at the plate.
  • BU is 9-2 in true road games this year with both loss coming against ranked teams at then-No. 6/8 Duke (4-2) and No. 23/22 South Carolina (3-0 / 8 inn.).
  • The Terriers are batting .339 and holding opponents to .175 with 69-29 advantage in extra-base hits with 28-8 lead in stolen bases.
SCOUTING UCONN
  • The Huskies are 5-0 at home with a series sweep against DePaul (2-1, 6-0, 5-1) and wins over Yale (9-5) and Central Connecticut (6-0).
  • UConn has notable wins over UCF (3-2) and Campbell (8-4) along with tightly-contested losses to then-No. 9 Clemson (3-2), Ole Miss (2-1) and NC State (3-1).
  • Four Huskies are batting over .300 with Lexi Hastings hitting .378 while adding 27 runs and 15 stolen bases.
  • Rosie Garcia (.324) has a team-high seven homers, while Grace Jenkins (.360) owns 12 doubles and team-high 30 RBIs.
  • Four Huskies own at least three starts apiece. Hallie Siems (8-3, 2.83 ERA) owns 80 strikeouts in 69.1 innings, while Meghan O'Neil (4-5, 2.26 ERA) has 58 strikeouts in 49.2 innings.
  • Overall, UConn is batting .275 while holding opponents to .236 with a 41-18 advantage in doubles and 44-21 lead in stolen bases.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 13-8, having won the last six meetings.
  • Though the teams have faced off twice in a season four times previously, Tuesday will mark the first-ever doubleheader between the two programs.
  • Last season, Boaz pitched six innings and Ricard added a scoreless seventh for a 1-0 victory helped by Roncin's solo homer.
  • The Terriers last visited Storrs in 2022 and pulled out a 5-2 win.
  • UConn last won in 2013 at BU with an 11-8 decision and will try to snap a two-game losing streak at home, last prevailing in 2012 (3-0).
UP NEXT
  • The Terriers have a bye in the Patriot League schedule this weekend and will resume conference play at Colgate on April 6-7.
  • BU's home doubleheader scheduled against UMass Lowell on Tuesday, April 2, has been postponed. The Terriers are currently looking to find another opponent for that date.
