BOSTON – Concluding a five-game homestand, the No. 21/24 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team will host Holy Cross in a weekend series starting Saturday at 2 p.m. The Terriers and Crusaders will face off a third time after the doubleheader on Sunday at 12 p.m.
A total of three points will be up for grabs in the Turnpike Trophy all-sports competition between the two Patriot League schools. BU currently owns a 10-7 advantage after men's tennis earned a 4-2 victory over the Crusaders back on April 5.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU currently owns the nation's second-longest active home win streak at 21 games behind Northwestern (24) with a doubleheader sweep over Yale and pair of single-game victories over Providence and UMass earlier this week.
- The Terriers rank in the top 52 nationally in 10 categories, including fifth in shutouts (15), seventh in ERA (1.60), ninth in fielding percentage (.979) and 15th in batting average (.335).
- Senior and reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Lauren Keleher ranks 19th nationally with a team-high .452 batting average and is 17th in hits at 56, one behind classmate and No. 12 Kayla Roncin (.413 avg.). Keleher also owns a team-high seven homers and 10 doubles for a .718 slugging percentage with a .510 on-base percentage ahead of graduate student Lizzy Avery (.496 OB%).
- In the circle, all three pitchers have earned at least five victories apiece while earning an ERA below 1.80. Sophomore Kasey Ricard (15-3, 1.47 ERA) is holding opponents to a .144 batting average with 141 strikeouts in 119.1 innings of work.
- Graduate student Allison Boaz (12-1, 1.78 ERA) has recorded 67 strikeouts in 90.2 innings, while Avery has posted 33 strikeouts in 35.1 innings.
- BU has nearly doubled opponents in homers, 23-12, while posting 51-23 advantage in doubles and 11-3 lead in triples.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
- The Crusaders are currently winless in Patriot League play after being swept at Lehigh (5-1, 4-1, 4-0) and vs. Army (12-4, 7-1, 9-1).
- This past week, Holy Cross 1-2 in non-conference action with a 2-1 win vs. Merrimack and pair of run-rule losses at Sacred Heart (11-3, 8-0).
- Megan Yurchick is batting a team-high .333 with four doubles and seven RBIs, while Ali Sniegocki (.284) owns a team-high 13 RBIs alongside three homers.
- In the circle, Sophia Roncone (3-9, 4.51 ERA) has posted 79 strikeouts in 77.2 innings while earning a shutout against Iona. Yurchick (4-11, 4.90 ERA) has earned 36 strikeouts in 64.1 innings of work.
- Overall, Holy Cross is batting .246 and holding opponents to .298 with opponents earning a 37-13 advantage in stolen bases and 63-48 lead in doubles.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 49-8, with a 23-1 home mark.
- The Terriers won all three meetings last season in Worcester, 9-0, 6-0 and 11-1.
- Two years ago at home, BU swept the series, 7-0, 4-0 and 8-0.
- The Crusaders last prevailed at home in 2015 and last at BU in 1990.
