LAKE WHEELER, N.C. – The Boston University women's rowing team capped its tenure at the two-day Lake Wheeler Invite on Saturday (April 27).
BU sent out three crews, all of which posted their fastest times on the final day amidst partly cloudy skies. Temperatures floated in the mid-60s on Saturday, with winds approaching five miles per hour from the southeast.
The Terrier Varsity 4+, coxed by
Kennedy Walker and stroked by
Sonya Carson, helped generate two points for the team in the invite. After finishing in fifth, ahead of Patriot League foe Georgetown and crosstown rival Boston College, in the first two rounds, BU edged out Miami's and Iowa's crew to place third in a time of 7:30.189. That only trailed Pocock Cup winner Tennessee as well as Alabama.
BU's Second Varsity 8+, coxed by
Audrey Lucerne and stroked by
Ada Giraldo, was fourth in the first round in 7:04.872 to beat out Washington State and Georgetown. After a fifth-place performance in the second round, the Terriers once again raced past the Cougars on Saturday, clocking in at 6:56.998.
In the Varsity 8+, the Terriers, coxed by
Trisha Jaggi and stroked by
Sofia Suhinin, overcame Georgetown in fifth to ignite the invite, then was fifth following a close battle with Clemson in the second round at 7:08.572, under two seconds behind the Tigers. BU closed Saturday with a sixth-place result in 6:47.478, under three-tenths behind Iowa in fifth.
The Terriers make their way to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday (May 5) for the 2024 Eastern Sprints, the final tune-up before the Patriot League Championship on Friday (May 17).
