BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore
Peace Omonzane of the Boston University women's track & field team was named the Patriot League field athlete of the week, the league announced Tuesday. This is Omonzane's second weekly award this season.Â
Â
Omonzane competed at the South Florida Invitational in the horizontal jumps. She jumped 6.27m (20' 7") in the long jump to set the top mark in the league, the 15th ranked mark in the NCAA East Region and the 28th ranked mark in the entire NCAA. Her jump is second in BU history and essentially guarantees her spot at the NCAA East Regional in May.
Â
In triple jump, she posted a wind-aided mark of 12.89m (42' 3.5"). That mark leads the Patriot League, is 10th in the NCAA East Region and is 24th in the NCAA overall. If the mark was not wind aided, it would be second all-time at BU.
Â
Receiving an honorable mention for weekly awards was freshman
Kelsey Niglio. She ran 2:13.22 over 800m to run the fifth-fastest time in the Patriot League this season. She is the second-fastest freshman in the event in the league and leads BU over the distance.Â
