BALTIMORE - Graduate students Jake Cates, Roy Meyer and Louis Perfetto of the Boston University men's lacrosse team were named All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse, the publication announced on Sunday night.
All three standouts were honorable mention selections. Meyer became the program's first-ever three-time All-American while Cates and Perfetto earned All-America accolades for the first time. Nine Terriers have now combined for 21 All-America honors since 2017.
After battling injuries over the past two seasons, a healthy Cates returned to the Terrier midfield and was a difference maker for BU all year. A Second Team All-Patriot League selection, Cates set new career highs in goals (21), assists (19) and points (40). He was particularly great down the stretch, as he totaled eight goals and three assists for 11 points over the final four games. That included a hat trick at No. 11 Army West Point in the Patriot League semifinals, with his final goal in overtime sending BU to the conference title game. Cates closed his impressive career with 71 goals and 41 assists for 112 points, which ranks eighth all-time at BU and first among Terrier midfielders.
Meyer established himself as the best LSM in program history and one of the best in Patriot League history after another outstanding season in 2024. The two-time First Team All-American led BU with 30 caused turnovers and paced all Terrier defenders with 73 ground balls. He played some of his best lacrosse in the final month of the season, totaling 36 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers in the final seven games. He tallied two goals and one assist in addition to 16 ground balls and eight caused turnovers en route to being named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. Meyer ended his storied career as the program's leader in caused turnovers (146), which ranks fourth in NCAA history, and is also second in program history (first among defenders) with 256 ground balls.
Perfetto enjoyed the finest season of his legendary BU career in 2024. A First Team All-Patriot League honoree, Perfetto entered the NCAA Tournament ranked third in the country with 5.47 points per game He set new career highs in goals (45), assists (48) and points (93), leading the Patriot League in all three categories. Perfetto put the Terriers on his back as they fought for another conference title, totaling 24 points (9g, 15a) in the final four games, including 17 points in the regular-season finale and conference quarterfinal victory. Perfetto was one of only two players in NCAA to enter the tournament with 40+ goals and 40+ assists and only the second player in program history to record over 80 points in a single season. Perfetto finished his career as BU's all-time leader in assists (144) and is second all-time at BU in goals (127) and points (271).
In addition to securing All-America accolades from Inside Lacrosse, Perfetto was named a Third Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine while Meyer and graduate defender Patrick Morrison earned honorable mention selections by that publication.
