
Rodrigues Wins Stanley Cup with Florida Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. - A former Boston University men's ice hockey standout is a Stanley Cup champion for the second straight season, as Evan Rodrigues ('15) helped lead the Florida Panthers to a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night.
Rodrigues, the first player named Evan to win the Stanley Cup, will become the 12th different Terrier to see his name on the trophy, with his former Terrier teammate Jack Eichel having won the Cup with Vegas last year. In total, a Terrier has lifted the Stanley Cup on 16 different occasions, as Nick Bonino and Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan won twice with Pittsburgh, current Terrier head coach Jay Pandolfo won twice with New Jersey and Scott Young won one Cup each with Pittsburgh and Colorado.
Rodrigues, who starred for the Terriers from 2011-15, was an impact player for the Panthers in his first season with the franchise. He led all skaters with four goals in Final and also added three assists, including the primary helper on Monday's opening goal, to lead the Panthers with seven points. In 80 regular-season games, Rodrigues totaled 39 points on 12 goals and a career-high 27 assists. He was also a career-best plus-26 on the season. He continued his strong play into the playoffs, scoring seven goals and adding eight assists for 15 points in 24 playoff games.
In 146 games with the Terriers, Rodrigues totaled 42 goals and 79 assists for 121 points. He was part of the 2014-15 squad that won the Beanpot and claimed both the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles. Rodrigues has totaled 81 goals and 126 assists for 207 points in 465 NHL games.
In addition to Rodrigues lifting the Cup as a player, former Terrier Paul Fenton was part of the Panthers' Cup-winning staff as a senior advisor to Florida general manager Bill Zito.
