Men's Ice Hockey Announces 2024-25 Leadership Group

July 29, 2024

BOSTON - Boston University men's ice hockey head coach Jay Pandolfo announced the team's 2024-25 leadership group on Monday, as rising junior Ryan Greene and rising sophomore Shane Lachance will be co-captains while rising junior Devin Kaplan will be an assistant captain.

This is the first time that all three standouts will wear a letter. Lachance is the first sophomore in program history to wear a 'C' while Greene is the first junior to wear a 'C' since Dante Fabbro during the 2018-19 season.

"I'm excited that Ryan, Shane and Devin were voted to lead our team for the upcoming season," Pandolfo said. "All three of them have earned the respect of their teammates, coaching staff and support staff. While this is the first time all three will be wearing letters, they've all demonstrated leadership abilities during their time at BU and embody what it means to be a Terrier. I look forward to working with them during the upcoming season as we once again compete for a national title."

Greene has been excellent for the Terriers in his first two seasons on Comm. Ave. He has missed just two games as a Terrier, playing in all 40 last season while setting new career highs with 12 goals, 24 assists and 36 points. He played some of his best hockey down the stretch, recording three goals and three assists for six points during the postseason as part of a five-game point streak from March 9-28. Greene was also great at the dot; of the top-13 point producers in Hockey East, Greene ranked fourth in faceoff win percentage (50.3%).

Lachance, who earned the team's Bennett McInnis Award for Spirit this past year, made an immediate and positive impact in his first season on the squad. He played in all 40 games, totaling 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists. Two of those 27 points came in the NCAA Sioux Falls Regional Final, when he scored a goal and notched an assist in the Terriers' 6-3 victory over then-No. 7 Minnesota to punch a ticket to the Frozen Four. Lachance also tallied a career-high three points, including the game-winning goal and two assists, in a 4-2 win at then-No. 11/10 Providence on March 7.

Kaplan has been a reliable power forward during his first two seasons as a Terrier, missing just three games as a sophomore after playing all 40 as a freshman. He has posted back-to-back 23-point campaigns, collecting a career-best 18 assists as a sophomore. A plus-24 in 77 career games, Kaplan recorded three assists during the 2024 NCAA Tournament, including two helpers in a 6-3 win over RIT in the opening round. Kaplan also collected an assist in the national semifinal.
