BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team begins its 2023-24 season when it hosts Merrimack on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU made its 2024 debut in an exhibition against Concordia, topping the Stingers 4-1.
- The Terriers outshot the Stingers 36 to 19.
- Graduate student Julia Shaunessy and juniors Maeve Carey and Sydney Healey were all +2 in the exhibition with 11 additional Terriers finishing the game +1.
- Senior Christina Vote, juniors Riley Walsh and Luisa Welcke and freshman Lola Reid all scored in the exhibition.
- BU welcomes eight newcomers this season, including five freshmen, to complete its 25-player roster.
- Junior Maeve Carey comes from Stonehill while Junior Riley Walsh joins from Union. Lindsay Bochna is BU's sole grad transfer after spending four seasons at Providence.
- BU returned six of its top nine point-scorers from the 2023-24 season.
- Clara Yuhn was the leading returner in goals (9), points (22) and assists (13) while Yuhn was the leading returner in goals (8).
- The Terriers were selected sixth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll.
- Tara Watchorn, who starred at BU and also came back to serve as an assistant coach, enters her second season at the helm.
- BU will play all of its home games in the first semester at Agganis Arena due to the ongoing renovations in Walter Brown Arena.
- The renovations feature updates to the locker room, team lounge, coaches' offices and arena entrance, as well as the installation of a video board.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers are 18-4-5 all-time against Merrimack, including a 10-2-3 home record.
- BU won all three meetings against Merrimack in 2023-24, most notably winning 4-0 on Feb. 17, 2024.
- The last time Merrimack won in the series was Feb. 22, 2023 in overtime, 5-4.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
- Merrimack began its season on Friday (Sept. 27) when it hosted St. Lawrence.
- The Warriors are 0-1-0 overall after dropping a 3-0 decision in their season opener.
- Merrimack did not find the back of the net in the loss and were narrowly outshot, 24 to 28.
- Senior Hayley Chang led the Warriors' offensive efforts with four shots.
- Freshman Abby Poitras led Merrimack in blocked shots with three.
- Merrimack also hosted Concordia for an exhibition but lost, 3-2.
