Men's Basketball to Host Lehigh Wednesday Evening at The Roof

BOSTON – Seeking its fifth straight home victory, the Boston University men's basketball team will host Lehigh Wednesday evening with a 7 p.m. start time.

The teams will meet for the first time since the Mountain Hawks eliminated the Terriers in a Patriot League semifinal overtime thriller, 84-79, in Case Gym last March. In conference play so far this year, BU won both home games against Army West Point (71-63) and American (60-54) but fell on the road to both Lafayette (60-46) and Colgate (87-50). Lehigh started with a 66-64 OT home victory over Bucknell and then dropped three straight games by either five or six points to the Black Knights (74-69), Raiders (67-62) and Loyola Maryland (80-74).

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU will try to earn its first five-game home win streak since winning six straight contests during the 2019-20 season.
  • Sophomore Michael McNair has led BU in scoring in each of the last three games and four of the last five, highlighted by his 20-point performance against American, to average 10.8 ppg. He currently ranks 17th nationally at 44.9 3FG%, netting 2.6 made 3-pointers per game.
  • Classmate Kyrone Alexander has recorded 20+ points in three contests to average a team-high 12.6 ppg alongside 4.9 rpg.
  • Graduate student Miles Brewster (9.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg) leads the Terriers with 22 steals, while senior Malcolm Chimezie (8.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg) has a team-high 14 blocks.
  • The Terriers sit atop the PL rankings for scoring defense (66.4 ppg) and rebound margin (5.2 rpg) though are 10th in turnover margin at -3.6.

SCOUTING LEHIGH
  • The Mountain Hawks were 5-1 over the last six games before the current three-game losing streak.
  • Lehigh is 1-8 on the road with the lone win coming against LIU (60-59). The Mountain Hawks came up just short at Columbia, 76-75.
  • Three Mountain Hawks are averaging double figures in points with Keith Higgins, Jr., leading the way at 17.9 ppg alongside team-high 5.0 rpg.
  • Tyler Whitney-Sidney is second at 12.5 ppg, while Cam Gillus has tallied 10.6 ppg with 4.0 rpg and 1.3 spg. Ben Knostman (4.1 ppg) directs the offense with a team-high 3.5 apg.
  • As a team, Lehigh averages 71.0 ppg and 43.4 FG% while holding opponents to 73.7 ppg and 45.0 FG%. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 15-10, after sweeping the regular season contests by a combined three points and coming up short in the PL semifinals, 84-79.
  • Lehigh's Gillus scored a career-high 30 points to help the Mountain Hawks overcome a 21-point first half deficit, while Terrier alum Anthony Morales ('24) posted a personal-best 27 points.
  • In the last regular season contest at Case Gym, BU overcame 15-point second half deficit to beat Lehigh, 72-71.
  • The Terriers were down by four with 1:51 remaining before scoring the final five points, highlighted by a pair of free throws from Brewster at four seconds.
  • Brewster finished with 17 points in the win, while McNair claimed a career-high 21 points.
LOOKING AHEAD
  • BU will hit the road again with a trip to Army Saturday (Jan. 18) at 12 p.m.
  • Terriers won at home, 71-63, back on Jan. 5 and will seek their first sweep over the Black Knights since the 2019-20 campaign.
  • BU shot 50.9 FG% and held Army to 40.7 FG% in the win.
