Battle of Comm. Ave. Takes Center Stage This Weekend on NESN, ESPN+

The best rivalry in college hockey resumes this weekend when the No. 8/9 Boston University men's ice hockey team faces No. 1 Boston College in a home-and-home series that begins on Friday night at a sold-out Agganis Arena before moving to Chestnut Hill on Saturday night. Puck drop for both tilts is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Both contests will be televised live on NESN and streamed live on ESPN+. In addition, an audio-only broadcast for both games will be located here.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • The Terriers enter the weekend atop the Hockey East standings with 28 points, two points clear of second-place teams BC and Maine.
  • BU extended its win streak to four games this past weekend with a sweep of then-No. 19/18 New Hampshire.
  • The Terriers secured a 6-3 road win on Friday and a 2-1 overtime victory at Agganis the next evening.
  • Junior co-captain Ryan Greene was the hero both nights, as he broke a 3-3 tie at UNH on Friday as part of a two-goal effort before scoring 1:00 into overtime on Saturday.
  • Reigning Hockey East Defender of the Week Cole Hutson and junior Quinn Hutson each had a goal and an assist on Friday while junior Devin Kaplan and senior Jack Hughes also lit the lamp in that win.
  • Greene and the Hutson brothers were nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top player in men's college hockey.
  • Since returning to the Terrier lineup on Jan. 10, C. Hutson has extended his point streak to five games, scoring three goals and adding seven assists for 10 points in that span.
  • He leads all NCAA freshmen defensemen in points (20) and assists (15) and is averaging a point per game this season.
  • Q. Hutson has recorded a point in seven of his last nine games and currently leads BU with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists.
  • Greene extended his goal scoring streak to five games with his overtime-winner on Saturday and has totaled six goals and added four assists for 10 points during that span
  • Senior goaltender Mathieu Caron was outstanding in both wins.
  • He made a season-high 39 saves at UNH, stopping all 15 shots he faced in the third period.
  • Caron then made 34 saves at Agganis and assisted on Greene's winner in OT.
  • Freshman Cole Eiserman, who tied last Saturday's contest at 1-1, leads all NCAA rookies with 13 goals and is tied for 10th overall in that category.
  • BU is one of just three schools to boast five players with 20 or more points.
  • The Terriers have gone 14-for-15 on the penalty kill during their four-game win streak, which ranks seventh in the nation since the start of the new year.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Comm. Ave. rivals have met 295 times and BU leads the series, 140-134-21 (.510).
  • No other opponent has appeared on BU's schedule more often; Northeastern is the next closest, having faced BU 252 times since the 1930-31 season.
  • The first game in BU Hockey history was on Feb. 6, 1918, against Boston College at Boston Arena.
  • The Eagles went 3-1 against the Terriers last season, including a 6-2 win in the 2023 Hockey East title game.
  • BU and BC have played 46 overtime games and the Eagles hold a 16-10-20 edge.
  • The Terriers have 11 of the 21 shutouts in the series history.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

  • BC is the new No. 1 team in the country after sweeping then-No. 4 Providence this past weekend.
  • The Eagles earned a 3-0 home win and a 4-1 road victory against the Friars to claim the top spot in both national polls.
  • Like BU, BC enters the weekend on a four-game win streak.
  • Sophomore Gabe Perreault leads BC and is tied for second in Hockey East with 28 points thanks to eight goals and a league-best 20 assists.
  • Freshman James Hagens is tied for second in Hockey East with 19 assists and is tied for sixth in the league with 25 points. 
  • Sophomore Ryan Leonard is tied atop the league leaderboard with 15 goals in addition to his seven assists for 22 points.
  • Hockey East Goaltender of the Week Jacob Fowler leads Hockey East with a .934 save percentage and is second in the league with a 1.70 goals-against average.
  • Fowler has started all 20 of his appearances, going 15-3-1 with five shutouts.
