CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The No. 8/9 Boston University men's ice hockey team fell at No. 1 Boston College, 2-0, on Saturday night at Conte Forum.
Freshman
Mikhail Yegorov made 23 saves in his collegiate debut, but an early power-play goal and a late empty-netter was enough to power BC (18-4-1, 11-3-1 HE) past BU (13-9-1, 9-5-1 HE).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The only goal of the first period came on a BC power play just 24 seconds into the contest.
- Yegorov came up with a terrific right-pad stop on a chance at the doorstep midway through the second to keep the Terriers within one.
- Both teams then had 2-on-0 looks just seconds apart, but BC didn't get a shot off and Jacob Fowler turned aside freshman Cole Eiserman's bid from below the circles.
- BC had a golden shorthanded chance in the first minute of the third but Yegorov was again equal to the task.
- Midway through the third, Eiserman blocked a shot and skated in alone on Fowler, but a backchecker did enough to disrupt Eiserman and negate the chance.
- BU pulled Yegorov in favor of an extra attacker with 1:25 remaining in regulation, but the Eagles earned a clear and converted into the empty net to seal the result.
GAME NOTES
- BU outshot BC, 30-25.
- The Terriers went 32-29 at the faceoff dot.
- Both teams earned three power plays.
