January 5, 2025

OTTAWA - Freshmen Cole Eiserman, Cole Hutson and Brandon Svoboda of the Boston University men's ice hockey team won a gold medal with the United States at the 2025 World Junior Championship on Sunday night at the Canadian Tire Centre.

All three Terriers were instrumental in the United States' second consecutive gold medal at World Juniors. Svoboda and Hutson scored back-to-back goals late in the second period to tie the gold-medal game at 3-3. Hutson, who assisted on Svoboda's goal on Sunday, set Team USA's single-tournament scoring record for a defenseman with his 11th point. He also became the first defensemen to lead the World Junior Championship in scoring, as he totaled three goals and eight assists to pace all skaters in points.

Eiserman totaled three goals and four assists for seven points. He scored one of the most important goals of the United States' run to the gold, as he broke a 1-1 tie in a 4-1 victory over Czechia in Saturday's semifinal contest. Svoboda, who was great at the faceoff dot and was one of his team's top penalty killers throughout the tournament, notched three goals and three assists for six points.

In addition to the three gold-medal winners, Terrier sophomore Tom Willander led Sweden to a fourth-place finish. Willander led all Swedes and was third overall in time on ice, averaging 24:21 of ice time per game. He totaled five points on two goals and three assists in his quest for a second straight World Juniors medal.

This is the second straight year that a Terrier has won World Juniors gold, as Lane Hutson claimed gold with the United States in 2024. In total, Terriers have earned 37 medals at World Juniors:

The four standouts will be back with the Terriers on Friday night when BU begins a weekend series against Vermont at Agganis Arena.
