Harvey's Multi-Goal Game Leads No. 4 Terriers Past No. 11 UConn

STORRS, Conn. — Backed by a multi-goal night from sophomore Jack Harvey and 24 saves from sophomore goaltender Mikhail Yegorov, the No. 4 Boston University men's ice hockey team earned a 3-1 win over the No. 11 UConn Huskies on Saturday night.

The Terriers (3-3-1, 1-1-0 HE) took almost the whole first period to get on the board, but once they did they led the Huskies (3-3-0, 1-1-0 HE) for the final 40 minute thanks to Yegorov's efforts in net.

Harvey kicked off his night with a goal at 19:40 in the first, finishing off a loose puck in front of the net. Then it was senior Owen McLaughlin who struck next, potting a power-play goal at 11:22 in the second period.

The Huskies shot back with a goal of their own at 13:43 to cut the BU lead to 2-1, but it was Harvey who finished off his second of the night at 15:11 in the second.

Along with McLaughlin's goal, he also assisted on Harvey's second tally. Sophomore defender Cole Hutson, sophomore forward Sacha Boisvert, freshman forward Jack Murtagh, freshman forward Conrad Fondrk and sophomore forward Kamil Bednarik all added assists.

In net, Yegorov made 24 of 25 saves to earn his third win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With 6:08 remaining in the first period, freshman forward Jack Murtagh broke free in his own defensive zone and streaked down the ice on a breakaway, but his attempt was denied by the Huskies goaltender.
  • UConn was able to sustain pressure in the BU defensive zone in the first, putting up 10 shots on Yegorov, but the Terriers' netminder turned each one away.
  • The Terriers earned a power play with 1:53 remaining in the first after UConn's Jake Richard was called for tripping.
  • On the man-advantage, freshman Jack Murtagh fired a shot on net that trickled through the goaltender's pads, and Harvey was able to clean it up with just 20 seconds left in the frame, taking BU into the first break with a 1-0 advantage.
  • McLaughlin scored his goal on BU's second power play of the game, as he was fed the puck from sophomore Kamil Bednarik and was able to skate into a shooting lane and light the lamp for his third goal of the weekend.
  • The Huskies answered within three minutes however, cutting the lead to 2-1 BU with 6:17 remaining in the second.
  • Harvey extended the BU lead to 3-1 with 4:49 left in the second, taking a pass from McLaughlin and burying his second of the night.
  • The game remained at 3-1 entering the third, and the Terriers would have to hold off a barrage of UConn chances in the final frame.
  • Yegorov was strong in the pipes, holding off seven shots in the final frame.
  • The Huskies emptied their net with 2:10 remaining, but could not beat an impenetrable Yegorov and the Terriers held on for the win.
GAME NOTES
  • Harvey's goals marked his first and second of the season, giving the Stacy, Minnesota native his first multi-goal game since Feb. 9, 2024 against Merrimack.
