BOSTON — The Boston University cross country teams are headed to Lehigh for the Patriot League Cross Country Championships Friday, Oct. 31. The women's 6K race begins 12 p.m. and the men's 8K race starts at 1 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the first time since 2021.
The Terriers will look to capture their first men's team title in program history while the women's program will try and win its first title since 2020-21.
Last year, the women's team finished second overall at the meet with 36 points, its lowest points total in program history. Terrier alumna Vera Sjöberg was the league's individual champion, finishing in 19:45.9. All five scorers were named to All-Patriot League teams, and 2024 top-15 finishers Adrienne Buettner-Cable and reigning Rookie of the Year Caroline Collins return for the Terriers.
On the men's side, the team took third with 97 points in 2024. Four of the team's top five runners return, with Mortiz Ebbeskotte,
Karsen Vesty,
Parker Schneider and
Dan Hruska all racing this weekend.
This season, the women most recently wrapped up a 10
th-place finish at the Princeton Fall Classic, led by junior Abby Waddington with a 37
th-place finish (20:56.0). Buettner-Cable, senior captain Samantha Seabury, Collins and junior Merem Gabriel-Rodriguez all scored for the Terriers.
The men's team also had an impressive Princeton Fall Classic, finishing 8
th at the meet — the third-best place by a Northeast region school. Junior
Freddy Collins' time of 23:54.7 placed him 36
th overall and he was followed by senior
Parker Schneider, sophomore
James American Horse, senior
Tucker Bowerfind and Hruska. The effort moved BU up to No. 5 in the USTFCCCA Northeast region rankings, the program's highest ranking since 2018.
BU earned weekly awards on the men's side this year, with Hruska taking Patriot League Runner of the Week on Sept. 9 and freshmen
Will Tempest and
Justin Ruiz both earning Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 9 and Sept. 23, respectively.
