Bucknell Rides Second-Half Surge Past Men's Basketball, 76-60

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Concluding a two-game road trip, the Boston University men's basketball team fell at Bucknell, 76-60, on Wednesday night.

The Terriers (12-14, 6-7 PL) managed to cut an early 21-6 deficit to three at the 52-second mark (27-24) in the first half and later to just one (36-35) with 14:33 remaining. The Bison (12-14, 8-5 PL) though shot 62.5 percent during the second half and nearly doubled BU in second-chance points, 11-6, to earn the series split.

Graduate student Miles Brewster nearly had a double-double with a team-high 14 points and career-tying eight rebounds. He combined for 5-of-9 in 3-point territory with sophomore Michael McNair, who was the second Terrier to score in double digits at 10 total.

Four Bison scored 10+ points with Josh Bascoe posting 17 points alongside four assists and Elvin Edmonds IV earning 13 points. Both Jayden Williams and Ruot Bijiek matched each other's efforts at 11 points, while Noah Williamson tallied eight points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Bucknell won the tip, Bascoe flushed a 3-pointer to spark a 15-3 run capped by Brandon McCreesh's layup at 12:17, and Edmonds scored from behind the arc a minute later to extend the lead to 21-6.
  • Sophomore Kyrone Alexander followed freshman Ben Defty's hook shot with two free throws as part of an 8-0 spurt to cut Bucknell's lead to 21-14 at 8:34.
  • The Terriers continued to chip away and pulled within three, 27-24, on Brewster's second 3-pointer with 52 seconds left in the half.
  • BU nearly ended the half on a defensive stop, but Williamson grabbed an offensive rebound and hit two free throws at 0.5s to enter the locker room ahead, 29-24.
  • The Bison started the second half on the attack by converting on back-to-back defensive stops with Edmonds assisting on a layup and then flushing a 3-pointer for the 34-24 advantage.
  • Senior Malcolm Chimezie helped mount a rally by hitting a layup and then assisting McNair on a 3-pointer, as part of a 11-2 run finished by junior Otto Landrum's lone 3-pointer at 14:33.
  • Chimezie then earned a block on the next possession, but the Bison scored on the offensive rebound and eventually returned their lead back to double-digits, 49-39, with 10:30 remaining.
  • After freshman Azmar Abdullah hit two free throws to cut the deficit to eight points on the next possession, Bucknell pulled away with a 15-4 run ended by Williams' 3-pointer at 6:57.
GAME NOTES
  • Brewster previously recorded eight rebounds at Lafayette back on Jan. 2.
  • McNair tied leading scorer, sophomore Kyrone Alexander, at 15 10+ point performances on the season, while Brewster increased his number of games to 13. 
  • Having hauled in seven rebounds in three of the last four games, Nobili was unable to make his presence felt due to 
  • Bucknell now leads the all-time series, 16-13, with its third win in the last 10 meetings between the two program.
UP NEXT
