BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston University women's lacrosse team used a powerful offensive effort led by four goals from junior
Jayne Feeney as they cruised to a 17-6 win over the Merrimack Warriors Wednesday evening at Nickerson Field.
The Terriers (4-2, 0-0 PL) took the lead with 10:26 to play in the first quarter and never looked back. At the half, BU was up 11-2 before closing out the game and earning its second straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Merrimack got on the board first with a goal just 2:20 into the game.
- The Terriers evened it up shortly after, as sophomore Izabella Amonte scored with 11:36 remaining in the first.
- Then, freshman Alex Kucharz potted her first career goal with 10:26 to play on an assist from senior Avery Jones.
- Amonte and Kucharz each added another in the first quarter to extend the BU lead to 4-1.
- The Warriors kicked off the second quarter with a goal from leading scorer Lindsay Atkinson.
- BU then scored seven unanswered goals, beginning with a Jones tally 1:22 into the second period.
- Then Feeney found the back twice, first at 13:23 and second at 12:12 to make it 7-2 Terriers.
- Sophomore Tessa Geddes scored her 10th of the year with 9:21 to play in the half.
- Jones got her second of the game with 8:21 left in the second quarter before junior Elle Stevenson got on the board with 7:46 left.
- Closing out the quarter was Geddes, who slung in a free position shot to make it 11-2 at the half.
- The Warriors got the first goal of the second half, but then the Terriers scored five straight, with Geddes, Amonte and Feeney all securing their hat tricks just five minutes into the third.
- Senior Hannah Tillier added her name to the scoresheet with a free position goal with 7:34 to play in the third, making it 15-3.
- Feeney got her baker's hat trick with 4:05 left on the clock in the third, finding the net from a free position.
- In the fourth, the Warriors scored three goals, but graduate student Kendall Sims scored with 3:56 to go.
NOTES
- Three Terriers tallied hat tricks for the second time this season, with Feeney, Amonte and Geddes all reaching 10 goals this season.
- BU is just one of two Patriot League teams to have three 10+ goal-scorers so far this season.
- Geddes picked up five draw controls, eclipsing the 100-career DC mark with 103 now.
- Freshman Kaitlyn Barton won 10 draws tonight, marking the second straight game in which she has recorded 10 DC.
- Sophomore Natalie Aiosa stopped six shots and allowed five goals, earning the win and keeping her save percentage above .500.
- Freshman Alex Kucharz had her first career start and made the most of it with a three-point night off two goals and an assist.
- BU turned the ball over just 13 times, tying the season-best they set against Boston College.
- The Terriers went 7-for-7 on free position shots.
- Barton and Geddes' effort on the draw was monumental as the Terriers controlled 17 draws to Merrimack's 10.
- The Terriers now lead the all-time series 4-0, having won all the matchups between these two teams since they started competing against each other in 2022.
