BOSTON – In a first for the Boston University softball team, the Terriers will compete in the Northeast during the month of February with a visit to Brown Friday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
Thanks to an earlier cancelation of a game while down in North Carolina and the cooperation of the weather, BU was able to add the single game against the Bears for Feb. 28 in its earliest matchup ever up north, beating the March 7 contest at Providence that opened the 2021 travel-restricted campaign.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is currently on a four-game losing streak after coming up short twice last weekend to the Garnet & Black Invitational host, then-No. 24/21 South Carolina, and falling to both UNLV and Fordham. Notable earlier BU wins came against UNLV, Boston College and defending Atlantic Sun champion FGCU (2x).
- Freshman and former Patriot League Rookie of the Week Biz Baglieri leads BU on a .296 batting average with juniors Brooke Deppiesse (.289) and Megan Coyle (.289) close behind.
- Both Deppiesse and sophomore Kylie Doherty (.257) have recorded five extra-base hits with Deppiesse owning three doubles and Doherty earning two triples alongside two homers.
- In the circle, junior Kasey Ricard (4-4, 1.60 ERA) has collected 32 strikeouts in 48.0 innings against 12 walks, while freshman Danika Nell (4-1, 3.44 ERA) owns 36 strikeouts in 36.2 innings against 12 walks.
- Through 14 games, BU is batting .246 and holding opponents to .222. The Terriers have pitched five shutouts and also failed to plate a run in four contests.
SCOUTING BROWN
- Coming off last year's 18-24 (10-11 Ivy) season, the Bears opened the 2025 schedule last weekend at the Winthrop tournament, posting two wins against Youngstown State (10-5) along with a 6-2 victory over the host Eagles. Brown's two losses came against Le Moyne (6-3) and St. John's (3-0).
- Amanda Deng is currently batting a team-high .400 with a triple and two RBIs, while both Laurel Moody (.286) and Lily Berlinger (.214) have five RBIs apiece thanks to a combined three homers.
- In the circle, Macy Borowski (1-0, 2.15 ERA) and Alexis Guevara (1-1, 2.50 ERA) combined for 39 strikeouts in 27 innings of work, while Edie Cobb (1-1, 5.25 ERA) earned four strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
- Brown is currently batting .211 while holding opponents to .210 with a 23-9 advantage in walks earned.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 17-11-1, with an 8-1-1 record dating back to 1999.
- In the last meeting in 2019, the Terriers claimed a 6-0 road victory with the Bears breaking up Emily Gant's ('23) no-hit bid on a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth.
LOOKING AHEAD
- BU will remain on the road with a return down south to the Winthrop Eagle Classic on March 7-9.
- The Terriers will face Western Carolina twice along with single-game clashes against Queens, Presbyterian and host Winthrop.
