ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 20 Boston University men's lacrosse team nearly pulled off a miraculous second-half comeback but fell just short at Navy, 13-9, on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
BU (4-1, 0-1 PL) trailed by 10 late in the third quarter until the Terriers went on a 6-0 run to get within four midway through the fourth quarter. Although they got within three in the final minute, the Terriers were unable to cut further into the deficit and Navy (4-1, 1-0 PL) hung on for the win.
Freshman 
Timothy Shannehan finished the day with two goals and two assists while graduate student 
James Corcoran collected a career-high three points thanks to two goals and one assist. Senior 
Jimmy O'Connell (2g) and junior 
Jimmy Kohr (1g, 2a) also had multiple-point efforts. Junior 
Tommy Garofalo and freshman 
Mike Rooney each found the back of the net as well while senior 
Brenden Kelly chipped in an assist.
Senior 
Will Barnes was excellent in the cage for the Terriers, making 16 saves and keeping BU in the contest. Junior 
Connor Kehm led BU with three caused turnovers and also had four ground balls while senior 
Benjamin Ferrara collected a career-best six ground balls. Freshman 
Madden Murphy was fantastic at the faceoff X, winning a career-high 13 of the 18 draws he took and gathering three ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Navy held a 4-0 lead after the first quarter.
- Kohr nearly got BU on the board with 11:46 left in the second quarter, but Navy successfully challenged that Kohr did not beat the shot clock.
- The Mids then made it 5-0 before Corcoran broke through with 8:26 left in the second stanza.
- Navy added two more goals to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.
- The lead stretched to 11-1 before BU began to claw its way back, beginning with a man-up goal by Rooney that pinged the left corner.
- Corcoran then powered past his defender to get to the crease and shoveled the ball past Dan Daly (7 saves) for his second goal of the day before his nifty skip pass to Shannehan cut the deficit to 11-4 moments later.
- The Terriers then made it 11-5 in the final seconds of the third quarter when Kohr picked up a ground ball off a failed clear and fed O'Connell for the transition tally.
- Shannehan came from around X and snuck a shot past Daly for his second goal of the afternoon that made it 11-6.
- Garofalo then cashed in on an EMO to make it 11-7 with 8:32 remaining in regulation.
- Daly made two terrific stops, including a point-blank look by Kohr on a late EMO, to maintain the Mids' four-goal lead.
- Navy finally broke its scoreless streak with less than 2:00 to play to make it 12-7, but BU continued to fight with Kohr and O'Connell scoring just six seconds apart to make it a three-goal game with 1:19 left.
- BU won the next faceoff but was unable to get another goal, as the Terriers turned it over and Navy scored an open-net goal to ice the game.
GAME NOTES
	- Shannehan leads BU with 24 points thanks to 13 goals and a team-best 11 assists.
- Kohr scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season.
- This the first time all year that BU has allowed more than seven goals.
- The Terriers went 3-for-7 on man-up chances.
- BU forced four failed clears and caused five of the Mids' 14 turnovers.
- The Terriers won 43 ground balls to 41 for Navy.
