April 11, 2025

ST. LOUIS - Freshman Cole Hutson of the Boston University men's ice hockey team won the Tim Taylor Award as the National Rookie of the Year and was also named a First Team All-American on Friday night at a ceremony held at the Stifel Theater.

Hutson is the sixth Terrier to be named National Rookie of the Year since the award's inception in 2007 and the second straight to do it after Macklin Celebrini received this honor last season. The others were goaltender Kieran Millan in 2009 and forwards Jack Eichel (2015), Clayton Keller (2017) and Joel Farabee (2019). Hutson's brother Lane was the runner-up in 2023.

The Tim Taylor Award is voted on by the nation's assistant coaches and is named for the former Yale University and U.S. Olympic Team head coach.

Since Jay Pandolfo took over as head coach for the 2022-23 season, BU has boasted five All-Americans, including four first-team selections. Lane was a two-time First Team All-American and he joined Celebrini as a first-team honoree last season. The Terriers have totaled 10 First Team All-America accolades since the 2014-15 season in addition to a pair of second-team selections.

Hutson led the Terriers to the Frozen Four after receiving the NCAA Toledo Regional Most Outstanding Player award. The Hockey East Rookie of the Year, New England Rookie of the Year and a Hockey East First Team All-Star, Hutson was also named Beanpot MVP after totaling five points (3g, 2a), including two goals and two assists in the semifinals and the game-winning goal in the championship game. He enters the national title game as points per game leader among all NCAA rookies and defensemen at 1.24, and he paces all NCAA rookies in points (47) and assists (33), including the primary assist on Thursday night's game-winning goal that sent BU to the national title game.
