BOSTON – Riding an NCAA leading 33-game win streak against conference opponents, the six-time defending Patriot League regular season champion Boston University softball team will host Army West Point in a critical series with both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's contest set for a 12 p.m. start time.
The Terriers are currently sitting at 9-0 following sweeps over Bucknell, Colgate and Holy Cross with the Black Knights one game behind at 8-1. The Black Knights swept last year's runner-up Lehigh on the road and returned home to sweep Bucknell and post a 2-1 record against the Crusaders.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is currently 7-2 at home after most recently run-ruling Stonehill in a doubleheader sweep, 10-2 (6) and 8-0 (6), One week ago, the Terriers came up short to Kentucky in two contests. In the first home PL series, they dispatched Colgate, 6-0, 11-0 (5) and 7-5.
- Junior Brooke Deppiesse leads the team in hitting at .427 with five homers, six triples and 12 doubles, while sophomore Kylie Doherty is hitting .398 alongside 10 homers and 45 runs scored.
- Junior Megan Coyle (.336) owns 10 doubles and leads the PL with 43 RBIs after totaling 41 over two years at Lafayette.
- In the circle, junior Kasey Ricard (19-8, 2.01 ERA) has totaled 170 strikeouts in 180.2 innings while earning four shutouts. Freshmen Ava Johnson (4-1, 2.48 ERA) and Danika Nell (4-1, 3.82 ERA) have combind for five solo shutouts as well.
- BU is batting .316 as a team and is holding opponents to .232 with a 21-4 advantage in triples.
SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT
- In non-conference play, the Black Knights own notable wins against Loyola Marymount (6-5) and St. John's (4-1). Earlier this week, they came up short to Iona in a doubleheader loss, 7-3 and 8-5.
- Ashton White is batting a team-high .386 with four homers, 11 doubles and 28 RBIs, while Taylor Brown is hitting .339. The two Black Knights are tied for the team lead at 27 runs scored apiece.
- Six Black Knights are hitting over .300 with Caitlyn Newburn (.292) owning a team-high five homers alongside 24 RBIs.
- In the circle, Katelyn Flanders (7-3, 2.31 ERA) has tallied 63 strikeouts in 78.2 innings of work, while Breanna Izzo (12-7, 3.01 ERA) has recorded 88 strikeouts in 107.0 innings.
- On the season, Army is batting .303 and holding opponents to .242 with an 80-77 edge in extra-base hits.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 30-11, after edging the Black Knights in the 2024 PL tournament opener, 2-0, to extend the active win streak to 14 contests.
